Hope I can get tickets close to the edge of the stage.

Too bad Rick Wakeman has yielded to his son for the tour.

Although Oliver IS good.

No, but Steve Howe does look like the cryptkeeper.

Want to buy tickets? Well, do it quick because tempus fugit!

/Sorry. Not trying to cause any Drama.
//Drama is actually my favorite Yes album. Shut up, Trevor Horn haters.

I checked the Toronto date and there are still tickets in the first section, centre available...could be fans have tired of the various incarnations of Yes? I'm not sure if I'll shell out $200 for 2nd tier tickets (it's $350 for a pair in the front). I saw them several times in the 70's and I may just be destroying some good memories.

I never did like Drama, even less after I saw the concert. It's not Yes, it's something else.

Heh, I'm happier than a Tormato in a trailerpark!!

Will it be better than when I saw them before in Buffalo, NY (pops)?

Yeah, I didn't think so. I'll pass.

I saw the 35th anniversary. Really wasn't expecting much - I mean, they're older than dirt and don't have anything to prove. I was wrong - they were utterly fantastic. If it's the right lineup, I'll definitely be going.

I've Seen All Good People tell Wonderous Stories about this year's tour, but Ticketmaster is giving me the Long Distance Runaround - because what I can afford puts me near the South Side of the Sky. Unless I can find a Machine Messiah, and Soon(It Can Happen!), I'll be the Owner of a Lonely Heart.

Because they got some special Fan Appreciation there. As in the fans Appreciate them in teams in their dressing rooms before and after the concerts. All except Jon- his wife stood guard at the door and wouldn't let anybody in.

Hmmm....50 bucks for a lawn seat, w/a $5.50 "convenience charge"

Even though the website for purchase isn't obviously TB, I detect their foul stench. I think I may pass.

Hey, this is sort of neat:

VH1 Classic and Yes will be looking for talented aspiring rock performers to join the band on stage. The winner will be invited to join Jon Anderson in performing "Give Love Each Day" from the album Magnification.

I guess it's lawn for me, since those are only $40.

BTW...Bill Bruford does have a son, who also plays drums. He's in a band called the Infidels, or something like that. Check out allmusic.com. Very good for tracking down musicians and what they've been doing for years.

My understanding is that Bil played some minor percussion on an Infidels CD but it was too perfect. I guess its more a rock/punk band. Bill does a lot of jazz these days with Earthworks. Still amazing, although more traditional in style. Bruford loves jazz, always wanted to play it over rock.

As a a bass player....Chris Squire has always been a hero. I sure wish I got a Richenbacker (spelling)

bigbottom 2008-04-01 09:49:17 AM
I have always admired the technical ability of the musicians in YES, however their music is just too technical to accurately reproduce live. Evey time I hear YES on a live recording it just sounds weak compared to the much produced studio recordings. Having said that, I'd like to say they are, however very talented musicians!

tarkus1980 [TotalFark] 2008-04-01 10:49:55 AM
I'm actually pretty surprised that Yes reformed to tour; I figured they'd be retired for good after the last few years. I hope this tour goes as well as the last one (which was FANTASTIC).

One thing that's nice is that supposedly they're going to do an acoustic set in the middle again. In a recent interview, Jon revealed that one of the things on tap was acoustic renditions of the 'song' portions of The Revealing Science of God, and that could be really damned beautiful.

mahavishnunj 2008-04-01 11:06:19 AM
one of my favorite bands but they cease to exist after 'going for the one'. if youre thinking of going to a yes show and havent heard them in a long time i HIGHLY recommend watching some youtube videos or something. steve howe hasnt been able to play guitar in years, its quite depressing to watch.

Olympus Mons 2008-04-01 11:11:09 AM
Loved their cover of America by Simon and Garfunkel. You just don't get muscian's like this in a top 40 format anymore. Many critics slight the era, but really it was more amazing than a lot that followed.

Uzzah 2008-04-01 11:23:28 AM
Checked the tour schedule. They're not coming to 90125.

phlegmography 2008-04-01 11:25:49 AM
I saw them a few years ago (and also saw them back in the 80's) and they put on a GREAT show. Even now that they're 500 years old (combined)!

But I sure wish they'd stop disavowing the Drama LP, which is by far their best. I understand Jon's reservation about singing some "other guy's" material, but come on, he's only 1/5 of the whole. Other bands have to suck it up when they play/sing stuff by former members.

Ironically, one of the highlights of the Yes show was the opening act -- Dream Theater -- who opened with the first instrumental section of Machine Messiah! Spot on amazing. Geez, why couldn't the Yes guys play it instead?? Nevertheless, I was thankful to hear it.

Maybe I will go. I don' remember much from the ones I went to in the '70s.

Better than Close to the Edge, The Yes Album, or Fragile?
You're well in the minority if you think Drama was Yes' best album.

I don't think so- I had a chance to get some great seats right when the presale started, but I saw the prices and nearly choked. I love Yes, I've seen them many times, and its always been a great experience. But I can't justify spending that much money on a couple of tickets for almost any band, let alone one who's best days are probably long behind them. Anyway, if you've never been there, it is a nice venue. Hope you get a great show!

Well, part of the reason I'm going is because of the venue. It's tied for my favorite mid-sized/largish outdoor venue (w/Wolf Trap). The last show I saw was Yes Symphonic back in '01 (at Wolf Trap...amazing show!! they played Gates of Delirium), and Anderson's voice didn't seem to have aged much at all.

Yeah, I was right on the edge (close to?) about going, but I decided why not.

Olympus Mons 2008-04-02 01:57:46 PM
Close to the Edge has got to be my favorite. Also close seconds....Tales of Typographical Oceans and Relayer.

Odd thing I read, I think on Bruford goes to college....Bill Bruford said something about the worst thing one musician can do to the other was keep them waiting. He was talking about Chris Squire. Got the feeling they were planning to split from the band to do something else musically at that time. Turns out Chris Squire is the only member of YES to stay with it through every transition.

dmax 2008-04-03 01:12:48 PM
Tormato is much much better if you imagine it with the "Going For The One" album cover. Really. Things like "Silent Wings of Freedom" just kick farking ass.
