I'd say they're pretty much an evolutionary dead end. They would have probably gone extinct on their own, but because so many people find them cute they could linger in zoos (assuming we don't cause ourselves to go extinct. As a biologist, there are things about them I find interesting, but I can't get into all this panda-mania. They really don't do all that much for me.

But it was amusing to discuss online new events an repressive gov't might be very good at, like a triathalon of clubbing protesters, shooting people execution style, and running people over with tanks.

My conundrum is that I don't watch the Olympics anyway so I don't know how to express my distaste for the Chinese.

The IOC is nothing but a bunch of senile old octogenarians who belong in a nursing home. I'd say they have a lot in common with the Chinese Communist Party.

I, for one, am willing to overlook decades of repression and murder if it means I can see cute panda mascots. But that's just me.
