If they don't, they'll eat them.

Yeah, nice work, China. Way to live in an area that is home to a cute bear. That sure softens up the rest of your crazy-ass repressive bullshiat.

Yes... this "cuteness" has a peculiar effect on human beings... makes them weak...

The tag has tagged it perfectly.

Are the panda's black eye spots meant to represent the Tibetan protester's eyes after you've beaten them up?

//useless gorilla-like chest beating: Our grizzly bear will eat your cuddly bear for breakfast.

How did Darwin ever allow a carnival prize with a specific diet that's reluctant to mate survive this long? In a country that hates and kills everything good and pure, no less? Amazing.

They delayed the release of these pics after holding them for days on end, to hold up to the theme of not allowing live footage of the Olympics.

I'm boycotting the olympics.

/that was easy.

Baby panda = Good

Chinese human rights record = Bad

These are separate things. Championing one doesn't do much to the other.

Oh and

Olympics = Meh

This is a third and still separate thing.

I'd say they're pretty much an evolutionary dead end. They would have probably gone extinct on their own, but because so many people find them cute they could linger in zoos (assuming we don't cause ourselves to go extinct. As a biologist, there are things about them I find interesting, but I can't get into all this panda-mania. They really don't do all that much for me.

DulceEtDecorumEst: I really, really hate China. I think it was a terrible idea to let them host the Olympics. I really enjoy the Olympics and watching sports, but I will not be tuning in this summer.

I hear ya. I remember back when it was announced in the summer of '01. I had to wonder WFT was the IOC thinking? But it was amusing to discuss online new events an repressive gov't might be very good at, like a triathalon of clubbing protesters, shooting people execution style, and running people over with tanks.

My conundrum is that I don't watch the Olympics anyway so I don't know how to express my distaste for the Chinese.

/tries to avoid MADE IN CHINA whenever possible
//not easy

The IOC is nothing but a bunch of senile old octogenarians who belong in a nursing home. I'd say they have a lot in common with the Chinese Communist Party.

I, for one, am willing to overlook decades of repression and murder if it means I can see cute panda mascots. But that's just me.
