Atlas Missile Site No. 6

They finally sold that one. It's over by Moses Lake WA.

I too would find such quarters quite awesome. Considering the configuration, it'd make one helluva hydroponic operation center as well. :D

No FLIR units are gonna catch me ridin' dirty up in mah silo.

Oh dude..let me show you the whole construct. (new window)

the place leaks and has poor ventilation and a bat problem

I once thought of moving into Carlsbad Caverns, but it has the same drawbacks. :-(

Though, I'd have to give it a Star Trek theme if I'm gonna live in it.

I guess that's cool.

But my childhood dream is to buy and old fire station and turn it into a house. Sliding down the pole into my garage would be teh awesome.

Well, I don't think it could survive Judgment Day (the real one, not the one in the Bible) but it wouldn't be bad against the zombie invasion, at least for a little while.

I don't think the zombies on the surface could detect the living inside that silo and if there were cameras to determine when the coast was clear, it'd be a good place to hold up for a while.

As for UFOs, someone give this poor bastard some kind of holographic light show and guys in costumes to meet him before he dies.

Tainted1 2008-03-30 04:31:06 PM
So he believes in UFO's and he gets a missile silo. For what, a possible invasion? If there was an invasion an enemy ship in orbit has it's choice of things to use against this facility starting with the ultra high tech "drop something heavy from orbit" option.

The only problem with that set-up is if you fart in bed, you've got to open the roof to air out the entire house, and it's gonna travel through every room. It may even taint the family dog and kill the houseplants.

Playinodds 2008-03-30 05:33:45 PM
All of these old silos are derelicts. They have been long-abandoned, filled with debris, many of them were used to store chemical waste. Without fail they all have water issues (pools made by large leaks), mold issues(from being underground and constantly wet without air movement), and animal issues(like bats in the article). The machinery which let them operate like the heavy blast doors, etc is usually completely unusable, and try replacing something like that.

I imagine fixing it will take a great deal more money then he bought it for.

I grew up in a house that had a fire pole that went from the kitchen into the basement. From the outside it looked like a pantry, with a couple of slatted doors, but when you opened it you found a kid's fantasy.

I don't know...this guy's silo sounds like a real heap.

That guy was on my shortlist, but he is a fundie Christian, and even Charmin-level-squeezable buttocks and a missile silo couldn't make up for that. I did enjoy many an hour of listening to his sonorous stories and making blinky-eyes at him, though.

I guess now that I'm off the market I really should find him someone.

Mad_Radhu 2008-03-31 12:16:27 AM
He might even be able to do some ghost research while he's there:

One in particular was going for a bargain price: Atlas Missile Site No. 6, in which the previous owner had killed and dismembered a visitor.

We actually had the who would buy this firehouse?' convo today as we were told the residential house/firehouse was supposedly a temp thing. Remodeling it - city worker. Answer - some guy who has either 2 RV's or wants the ultimate huge garage-
