Man, just how fugly do Scots teachers have to be for there to be any need for debate?

Just look at at the hideous things US kids will bone, not to mention the hot ones. If the Scots ones are worse than that, ick. Just plain ick.

Why should the Debate's Union apologize? The students are (presumably) selecting the topics they want to talk about.

/Teachers golden Rule: Never screw students.
//unless you work in Administration.

Heaven forbid you should let the kids talk about something that directly affects them. Gee. What's the worst that can happen? That they might actually get insight into why teachers should NOT be preying on them?

That was my thought exactly. Maybe this would lead to a healthy discussion and an understanding by the student debaters (Master debaters?) of why there are prohibitions against that sort of behaviour. But then, heaven forbid anyone engage in rational discussion of a controversial issue. It's so much easier to just scream "The children!" and run to bury your head in the sand and pretend that no teenager would ever consider having sex, let alone with an adult...despite scores of movies and songs to the contrary.

So will students need their parents to sign permission slips, for class field trips to Victoria's Secret?

Students are allowed to have sex with teachers. Its just that the teachers aren't allowed to have sex with them.

/Doesn't blame smitty.
//TFA got it it wrong.
///or the debate team.
//perhaps they should apologize for the bad logic.

My 8th grade teacher was a 25 year old ex-Falcons cheerleader, I wish that we could've had a better student-teacher relationship. Too bad she was a major biatch!

FTA: EUDU convener Ed James said: "This is a topic which has been debated in school debating societies for some time. "We did receive a complaint about this topic from one school and an apology was immediately issued for any offence caused."

I will never, as long as I draw breath on this sad little blue-green mudball, understand why organizations will so quickly apologize for things they knew would cause offense - Sometimes choosing to do them for precisely that reason - And then did them anyway.

I consider it a good topic. They considered it a good topic. The students considered it a good topic. End of story, and fark the "church and community leaders" who only poked their head in to pretend they still have relevance in today's world.

If the female students aren't putting out, the teachers will fill in.

So female students, you know what you have to do.

I think they should let the students drink first, this should make the decision easier. Beer goggles help tremendously.

Obviously every older guy seems to wish kids were getting farked by teachers when they were in school and every teenage guy now days wishes it was their school that had the teachers were farking around with students. But the true question is are there any GIRLS who wish their teachers would fark em? Thats what the debate needs to be about.

Actually at my school, there was a girl who slept around with a male teacher. Their ages weren't too off, I think 18 and 26. After she graduated, they moved away together.
He was a scrawny, dorky kind of guy. She might have been the first person to ever have sex with him. Anyway, fark anyone who thinks its their business to mess with that.

These parents understand that DEBATING about sex is substantially different than having sex right? This is a current events topic that is widespread and affects schools, why shouldn't it debated by students? Are we raising a generation of people who refuse to give critical thought to issues involving sex? What message is that?

Maybe they are getting the phrase "masterdebating" confused with something else.

Wait, is this at the college level?

I read the "Teachers Code of Ethics" for my state school when I was a TA. I reviewed very carefully for language regarding student-teacher relationships. There was none.

bunner [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 12:39:29 PM
Sure.

We can have female teacher come in wearing Daisy Dukes with a price printed on the ass and have classes like "MATH 101: You're gonna love my pi" and "Going DOW in history".

The male teachers can wear Chippendale weenie holsters and we can stick a cool lighting in sound system in the gym and have Purell, lube and condom dispensers in the hallways.

Kids? One day, you, yes even you, will get laid. Teach? Hike your underpants up and see if maybe you can get home and wring out your knickers after a day of drooling over 14 year old kids with 24/7 hardons and whack your clam instead of risking felony arrest, can ya?

I'm beginning to view grown men and women on the teaching cert tip who never... leave... school.

Ya know?

They go to school then, go to school, then.. go to school and bang kids.

Boo.

Fail.

Rik01 [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 12:46:20 PM
Actually, it's a pretty good topic for the kids to debate and I'd be curious to find out what the conclusion was.

Thanks to parents getting in the way with lawyers in tow, it's hard for schools to fully encourage intellectual growth among students by using anything new, different or interesting.

I seem to recall that at 16, most of us kids pretty well felt that we were mature enough to handle almost anything anyhow and among ourselves, we had private discussions that probably would scare the krap out of today's parents.

Since this topic affects students, I think it's a pretty good idea for them to explore all the possibilities.

In the 60s we discussed pot and even the kids who didn't use it felt that making it illegal wasn't a good idea but nor was allowing it to be ungoverned. Back then, many felt it should be regulated, like booze or tobacco.

I'll put in my two cent :

they get arrested for abusing a "position of authority"

In the last decade or so, I don't think any teacher can claim to have a position authority, the snowflakes can take them to court for just about anything now. Students are the authority. now, THAT is wrong.

Yes. It happens all the time. Girls have a little bit more discretion about it than guys, so male teachers get away with it more often. But don't delude yourself. Teenage girls are sexual beings just like teenage boys.

People fark. It's one of the best parts of being human. Adults want to fark teenagers. Teenagers want to fark adults. Get used to it. It's not going to change no matter how many people we put in prison. We're senselessly destroying too many good people's lives over nothing.

Teacher-student sex is properly the subject of disciplinary measures by the school. Where it's truly coercive, it's properly career ending for the teacher, and criminally punishable. But what we're doing to people for consensual relationships is wrong.

One woman - whose 16-year-old daughter took part in the contest - said: "When she told about the topic we had a debate of our own round the dinner table about it. She didn't feel too young to be discussing it but I can't see the generation before us having the same sort of attitude."

Yeah, because they were backwards idiots, just like you. How dare kids ask questions?! They might learn something!

Labour's deputy leader, Cathy Jamieson added: "I am surprised the Debates Union thought this was a suitable topic. Breaches of trust by any professional working with young people is a serious matter and there should be no suggestion that sexual relationships between pupils and teachers is acceptable."
