Gotta draw the line SOMEWHERE, right? Heh.

Keep in mind all of the mega-casinos aren't actually in Las Vegas...

Henderson, OF COURSE!

I have not heard of the place. I remember going to underage dance clubs though. Lotsa drugs.

Marcus Aurelius [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 08:36:29 AM
They're in Vegas. Aren't they supposed to be doing hookers and losing at the blackjack table?

TeddyRooseveltsMustache [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 08:41:53 AM
Las Vegas city elders huh? You mean the geriatric motherfarkers playing nothing but the slot machines for 24 hours straight, and gambling their pension away? Hmmm, their decision making skills don't suck at all, I'm sure listening to them would work out great.

chipspastic 2008-03-30 08:43:25 AM
wen did lolkatss taik ovr los vagas???

srsly

IKillBugs 2008-03-30 08:46:14 AM
Didn't 80's teen movies teach these fools anything. As we speak, there is a dance off, ski race, BMX race or something of that nature being planned to decide this night clubs fate.

TheMega 2008-03-30 08:47:00 AM
Prolly more like a bunch of elder Repukes mad because they can't get in the 18-and-under crowd and hit on the lil kiddies and show them their lollipops.. so, they go to shut them down.

harrycary 2008-03-30 08:48:31 AM
it would be funny to hear a teen give the same speech, including bible quotes, to the city council that Ren McCormack gave in the movie.

Wow. And I thought 'libtard' and 'conservatard' were dumb.

these "dance" clubs just sound like a friggen skating rink - skates.
do kids not go to skating rings or rinks (wtf ever it is) anymore? i mean i did it as a kid and that was only like 15 years ago.

You mean roller rinks? That trend pretty much went out of style by the 3rd Karate kid movie.

Irony tag explode.

Ow My Balls 2008-03-30 08:55:31 AM
Ahh...The irony tag fits for here:

The ordnance still allows some groups to have dances, like religious organizations.

To some people who believe themselves guardians of morality, teens dancing in a club to music they can't understand - gyrating their hips and thinking sexual thoughts - this is supposedly immoral. However, belonging to a cult-like organization where invisible beings are worshipped or else several psychological ostracism schemes are enacted...They seriously believe this to be the paragon of morality!!

I'm hoping Penn & Teller are preparing an episode for this very ordinance as we speak.

Aamelrons 2008-03-30 08:56:34 AM
Everyone knows what dancing leads to!

Marcia Brady's Ex-Boyfriend 2008-03-30 08:58:03 AM
It's cool...Kevin Bacon will win the hearts of the elders, and everyone will dance!

BeerBear 2008-03-30 08:59:15 AM
But the Henderson City Council is questioning the effect on resident's morals.

Councils are a bunch of idiots

The city elders reason the clubs "seriously effect the social and moral well being of the city."

Affect. Effect.

/Whatever...

Don't worry, I'm sure Kevin Bacon has a plan.

crazytrpr 2008-03-30 09:21:25 AM
1)City of Henderson ain't las vegas, they can do what they want

2)The wealfare andmorals of he citezens is BS, a legal fig leaf. I suspect the city wants other types of businesses that pay more taxes and gives them less grief than a night club (teen or other).

NIMBYs only allow bars & Night clubs in their area if that is the only use for practical for the property (an old warehouse district), for tourism and conventions (New Orleans & Las Vegas) or the council is bribed.

I_Approve_Of_This_Message 2008-03-30 09:23:40 AM
For those that do not know, Henderson is the equivalent of that small town in New Jersey where lots of New York City cops and firemen live. I'm not surprised that the casino workers want to shield their children from all of the drunken debauchery that enables them to buy a McMansion a few miles away.

/prolly won't work

Suicidal Writer is wrong because words that have distinct meanings should be used appropriately? Fascinating.

I'm for banning the club because dancing is the tool of the devil. Won't someone think of the children!?

I used to go to the youth program of a very strict baptist church and they were convinced that dancing did nothing but excite the private parts of the people (and I can only hope they were right, /beavis-like heh-heh), therefore dancing was a tool of the devil. Pretty nutty people but they had a great sports program in exchange for fifteen minutes of haranguing a week. Not a bad deal.

You have to consider the youth's morals.

Dancing?

I used to go to an 18 and under dance club growing up in NJ. It was more lewd and disgusting than ANYTHING I have ever encountered at NYC's "grown up" clubs like Tunnel, Twilo, Exit, Limelight, etc.

/and that includes the drugs
//memmmmmmmmoooorrriieeeessss

NakedApe 2008-03-30 10:43:10 AM
Control freak politicos like this need to show people that they have power. They always attack somebody they feel can't or won't fight back. They thought the teens were an easy target. If the business owners and the kid's parents look like they might do something, like publicize their stupidity and vote them out, the council will back off.

"Las Vegas city elders want under-18 dance club shutdown because it "seriously effect(s) [sic] the social and moral well being of the city"

But apparently not as much as blackjack and hookers.

Joe Q Sixpack 2008-03-30 11:11:19 AM
At first, I read the headline as "under-18 dance club showdown," and as such, really just came here for the pics.

Aren't Tunnel and Twilo long gone? Exit, too, innit? Or are they all back?

The (sic) is wrong.

They are concerned that the dance clubs effect a social and moral well-being. They would much rather not have those things.

Aevum 2008-03-30 12:28:46 PM
What I can't figure out is how these clubs stay open in the first place.
The space rent is hellacious, the security to keep the overage people is expensive, and they don't have the ability to serve severely overpriced drinks to make up for it.

However, good on them.
Fark the city elders (The Henderson ones, not the Las Vegas ones).

/Many people don't realize how many cities "Las Vegas" is made up of.

Lol, i believe it was in Randolph off route 17 or something! Music Factory i think it was called. You sound familiar... Did you ever make out with some random chick in a dark corner of the bathroom there? (That was me). J/K :-)

WINKTOLOGIST

They are all closed now. I grew too old for getting into trouble clubbing some years ago unfortunately
