I wonder how many people drove by and thought "gee....they're right! all these years I was misguided but now I'm free! Thanks anonymous anti-religion group!"

So, the earth, more specifically Florida, IS the center of the solar system, then

As someone who recently drove by and thought "gee....they're right! all these years I was misguided but now I'm free! Thanks anonymous anti-religion group!", I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

That TV channel should change it's call letters to WTFV.

"When you condemn all religions and say they are a fairytale that is wrong," said Rich Stormes, a nearby business owner.

I hate to tell you this bub, but all the religions can't be right at the same time. That means all but one out there is a fairy tale.

When I was living in Erie a local church put up a billboard that said "God Bless the WHOLE WORLD". The community reaction was so harsh you'd have thought it said LONG LIVE OSAMA Bin LANDEN!!!! Apparently God does not bless the entire world and it is anti-American to suggest it.

Gwendolyn: I hate to tell you this bub, but all the religions can't be right at the same time.

That's a strangely compelling statement. Aren't all religions "right?" Otherwise, why would people believe in them?

I love the "someone must have put it up illegally in the middle of the night" bit.

Riiiight...

"You're going to burn in the firey pits of hell if you don't follow these exact rules that contradict your instincts and human nature".

Yeah. That's comfy and soothing.

Only if you don't worry about The Devil coming to get your sinful ass and turn you into the last thing you want to be turned into.

Am I missing some in fark joke with this being a "wealthy individual" that paid for this? Cute sign. I am curious why an atheist would bother though? I guess all the gay pron and stomach stapling billboards in my neighborhood have inured me to whatever.

Yeah, is it just me, or does the submitter's description not match the article?

An eternity in hell is still an eternity of existence and awareness.

Religion offers an alternative to non-existence after death.

According to Christianity, every single thing you just said is completely wrong.

Capitalist1 [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 05:54:24 AM
No, no. No one of the many religions has to be true. They can, and are, all wrong. They are wrong because they are *religions*.

All but one? Have you considered that perhaps none of them are right? Or at the very least that no single one of them is completely right?

I would, mainly because I am sick to death of seeing 'This is holy week' or 'Jesus is the reason for the season' everywhere.

I would, mainly so that when it was pulled down I could post a large picture of my testicles saying "suck my balls, (insert community here)"

/I would not live in said community

Number41 2008-03-30 07:10:19 AM
I wouldn't put up a sign like that to convert people. I'd do it so that people would waste time being angry about it. And luckily, the kind of person who would get angry about it is exactly the kind of person whose time I'd like to waste.

Wow, the Christians don't like the "All religions are fairy tales" billboard, and you guys don't like their "Jesus is the reason for the season", etc. billboards! How ironic that you guys have different beliefs but the same ideals and are unwilling to respect each others opinions! I guess both of your groups are ignorant!

Actually I don't care either way. I just want to build a billboard of my balls and tell a community to suck them, because it would make me laugh.

wildcardjack 2008-03-30 07:38:28 AM
Actually, very tasteful. But the restaurant mentioned in the article was in an awkward position because of proximity and regularity of usage.

The message probably could have been posted someplace as noticeable but not directly associated with a non-participant retail business. The lost business could be considered collateral damage.

And no, it's not a one step deconversion sign. There is no one step means of deconverting the religious because, much like a drunk, they have to realize they want to change first.

/I don't know what the "12 steps to atheism" would be
//But the first would be doubt in religion

You pillock. The point is that atheism is the most under-represented yet most rational philosophy around.

And he's not the reason for the season. Read some history.

Well, I'm a Christian, and that billboard doesn't bother me. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if someone wants to put it on a billboard, so be it.

It is a shame that a restaurant that had nothing to do with it lost a lot of business because of it.

I'll second it!!

Drakkenmaw 2008-03-30 08:32:37 AM
Eh, I've never understood the angry atheist. If you believe you've only got a very limited amount of time with which to exist, wouldn't you have the most powerful cosmological impetus imaginable to do as many fun things as possible within that time?

If once you're dead that's it, game over man, game over - why waste time being angry over anything at all? If you get pissed off by stupid Christian evangelizing, you're wasting the very limited time you have being pissed off at something when you could be skydiving or biking through Big Sur or something else more fun.

It would seem to me that the people who actually believe in life after death would be the ones with more reason to waste time on stupid things.

/Agnostic.

How do they know the drop in business was due to the billboard? How do they know it was linked to the looming wallet tightening? Did anyone come in and say "Hey, I'm not eating here because of that blasphemous billboard!"

Those honkeys.

So Muslims aren't the only people that get all outraged, calling for censorship when their religion is insulted or denounced?

I'm outraged at this outrage.

Fear of death and indoctrination during their most impressionable and formative years.

It's sparked quite a bit of debate and it would be interesting to get some farking opinions.

I'm alright with that, but can we change to Florida?
