EJ said she, Kirra and Eliza received abuse from emos, who accused them of "ripping off their style".

Like they invented it. Hello, goth and death rock?

Stupid children.

What was old is new again. Let me know when they start to do something really different. Like gene modification therapy that grows horns on their heads and spiked tails out of their rears.

CyberDave: That article made my brain implode.

Reading it as a teenager is immensely amusing. This is mainly because adults simply cannot effectively and logically comprehend the thought process that go on regarding teen social styles and trend choices, and when the news tries to mainstream it, it comes off as complete and total tosh. Which is, of course, exactly what it is. Scene and emo are some of the stupidest crap I've seen. Most, if not all, of these professed "lifestyle choices" are dumb.

Crystal McKenna, a 17-year-old emo from Warrnambool, south of Melbourne, is not a fan of Scene kids.

"They are like wannabe emos. It is more the fact that they change just to be in with everything that is going on at the time," she said.

That statement is laced with so much unintentional humor.

Because adults were never teenagers.

If you're suggesting teenage culture is static, I'm amused. It seems that each generation seems to piggie back on the old one and then try to come up with something specifically illogical to their parents.

I'm not saying that adults don't understand teenagers per say. I'm saying adults don't understand teenagers in the context of the current teen culture.

I never even heard of scene. And do you know who else dresses up to get stared at at the mall? WHORES! My step daughter did the whole emo thing until she realized the "cute" boys thought she was a freak and ignored her. So she stopped being emo and dresses like a normal kid. So now I'll have a new set of problems.

If 13 year olds are doing it, it's not cool/hip/with it/current/whatever.

I knew that punk was over when I saw a pack of giggling thirteen year old girls in ratty jackets ask for the newest Green Day album at a record store.

So, in summary, it could be worse, folks.... Just imagine herds of these running around...

quadropheniac: I'm saying adults don't understand teenagers in the context of the current teen culture.

It DOESN'T change though. The bands and brands are different, and a few minor cosmetic touches change, but ultimately theres a very short cycle for youth culture, and it constantly spins around and around, dating back to as far as a sizeable middle class has existed, though taking a short break between the fall of Rome and the start of the Renaisance. The parallels are incredible and simply reaffirm that theres nothing new under the sun.

Though having said that, I'm still not sure exactly what kind of music scene kids are affiliated with. Thats one thing that HAS changed, the ability of culture to spread so rapidly has led to more mashups and confusion than the more narrow focus of past fads.

Dude I'm 21 and not that far off from being a teenager myself and I have to say that I don't understand current teen "culture" and I sure as hell didn't 5 years ago. The people on fark know exactly what it's like being a teenager and realize just how freakin stupid they/we can be. This current brand of foolishness is no different from the flappers in the 20's except those people didn't dress up like homosexuals and biatch about how much society hates them while they set cats on fire.
