I wish I believed in Hell. It would bring me no greater pleasure to know he was being reamed by demons for all eternity for his hateful words and deeds.

If Falwell is in Hell, I hope that the Devil looks like Marsellus Wallace from "Pulp Fiction" and he thinks that Jerry Falwell is Zed..... for all eternity!

I don't get the zealotry. He was a bad, bad man. He's dead now. The world is a tiny bit nicer. We don't need to sink to the level of the fundamentalists and wish "eternal damnation" upon the wicked. He was evil. Now, he's dust. Bye.

No. I'm an old lady. But, I'm an atheist. Jerry Falwell was a wart on the existence of humanity. Still, I honestly believe that death brings death. It's comforting, not having to worry about an "afterlife."

Falwell used a platform of peace and equality to spread hatred, ignorance and sexism. He's dead, and the world is a better place. It will be an even better place when Robertson joins him, which given by his age ought to be not too far off.

He was the Fred Phelps of our times.

Falwell is one of those people where I kinda wish I was wrong about the no afterlife bit. It brings a sense of vicious comfort to think of that vile sack of shiat sucking Satan's cock for eternity. The man was evil personified.

I still don't see why Mr. Falwell was so bad. He stood up for his beliefs and was against the moral decline of this country. That's more than the average basement-dwelling Farker can say.

eqtworld: "AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals"

Jerry Falwell

"If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being"

Jerry Falwell

"The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews"

Jerry Falwell

"(re: 9/11 attacks) "...throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools, the abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked and when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad...I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way, all of them who try to secularize America...I point the thing in their face and say you helped this happen.""

Jerry Falwell

So, wait. Enlighten a poor non-American if you would be so kind.

Why is it that Falwell (when he was alive) and others like him (Seemingly all Republican?) in the spotlight can get a fairly clean pass on who they support in the media even with many outrageous quotes, and yet Obama's preacher gets put under a microscope for what, in some cases, might be seen as less hateful rhetoric?

I think to many of us who don't live in your country there seems to be a horrendous double-standard which we either assume:

1) Many do not see.
2) Many see but don't care to fix.

Both don't look all that good.

So, someone, please spin it for me. Please?

You're telling me that people 60 years ago were better off than the people now? Sure, we may live longer, but people no longer have morals. Now we're all about me, me, me! If we're not satisfied, we screw everyone else.

I'm just glad my grandfather's generation fought WWII, not the current generation.

Jeremiah Wright complained about the unfair power structure in this country. He complained that white people control everything.
Jerry Falwell complains about gays and feminists.

Wright's comments question the basic assumptions of the equality we perceive ourselves to have. Its a political argument.

Falwell just complains that gays are evil and women are should stay in the kitchen. And, since the bible says so, he argues that criticizing him for having this view is criticizing Christianity. And, since about half of the idiots here believe the bible is literally true, no news outlet wants to be perceived as "anti-Christian"

that and Falwell was rich, powerful, and well connected.

Methinks you are forgetting quite a few wars in Europe.
Additionally Stalin and Hitler, while Evil, did not kill in name of "Atheism" but rather for ideologies and secular, political, and security goals. Many religious wars were specifically in the name of religion.

I find your comparison either misinformed or disingenuous.

Jon Stewart is a comedian, who cares what he thinks. Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Chairman Mao, have killed HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of people in the name of atheism. Yet farkers are concerned about a preacher who said mean things. Get some priorities.
