New Yorkers? OUTLANDERS!!

PC LOAD LETTER [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 12:46:56 AM
After Cuomo, Pataki and Spitzer, it would be better, to be honest.

Code_Archeologist [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 12:59:03 AM
Well... the New Yorkers did like her enough to make her their Senator. Making her their governor is not that big of a step.

abb3w [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 01:09:50 AM
A better plan would be to give her the Senate Majority leadership, for as long as the Democrats maintain the Majority and she can keep her seat. I really think she'd be better there than Reid, and better there than in the White House.

She'd also could instinctively do more good there at turning back the tide of President Dubya's abuses of Executive authority than she ever could deliberately from the Oval Office.

Yeah. Right. She will not take the consolation prize unless forced to. I mean, it's HER TURN to be president. And she's going to be a whiny biatch about that.

CravenMorehead 2008-03-30 01:37:22 AM
Dear Hillary,
We feel bad that you lost the nomination so we'll let you be Governor instead. Now go away.

Signed,
Everyone

This doesn't sound like the worst idea.

abb3w: Mario wasn't that bad....

He did 2 very un-nice things when I was voting age:

1) Hiked tuitions up majorly for SUNY, gave SUNY Board of Directors a free hand to start various privatization-style schemes in SUNY, and with budget cuts, left the system with no choice but to start trimming profs. I remember my tuition going way up and thinking "the Governor appoints these people, doesn't he give a crap?". Meh, ancient history and minor, overall, but I felt that, observed the Governor taking zero action, and remembered it.

2) The very day after Election Day, 1990, Cuomo fired some 1500 state employees to "trim costs". What a dick. And I campaigned for his ass despite the SUNY stuff, even shaking soft, slimy hands with Lundine. I left College Dems that semester and at the young age of 19, realized that both parties suck donkey balls, just that one or the other will take a favorable position every once in a while, so they get my support.

panfried [TotalFark] 2008-03-30 01:45:36 AM
The people of NY are a fitting sacrifice. May I suggest Derek Jeter first, followed by A-Rod, Jason Giambi then the rest of the population. Spare Joe Torre since he converted from the "Yankie religion of peace" to humanity's understanding of human dignity.

I like the idea about sacrificing the people of New York... but why do we need some weird reason?

soosuh 2008-03-30 04:37:50 AM
I think if Hillary loses this race, she'd rather pull a Greta Garbo. No way can she handle a defeat so huge.

Saiga410 2008-03-30 04:39:01 AM
With former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani now reported by the New York Post to be weighing a race for governor, voters could see a Clinton-Giuliani matchup after all.

Those people are screwed.

""Every time the punditocracy says otherwise, she happens to win," says another campaign aide, declining to comment on the record. "Hillary believes, and so do I, that she'll be president this year. It may be an alternative universe, but it's the one they [the Clintons] live in." "

So uhmmm...This brings a few things to mind that I would like to address to the brave anonymouse campaign worker (not that I blame him/her if I was working for that campaign I'd want to be anonymous)...

1-Do you really want to base your hopes of winning on the theory of the universe according to Sliders? (new window)

2-Do you realize that you just, for all intents and purposes, admited that Clintons are not thinking rationally or living in the real world in regards to Hillary's continued quest for power?

3-If you realize that the Clintons are deluded in staying in the nomination conquest and you still support them, what does that say about you?

thats all

/maybe it's just me but I found that part hysterical
//although it would be cool to live in Sliders world

Something funny about this whole Spitzer mess. The second in command now is Joe Bruno. The same Joe Bruno who got Eliot into hot water in the begining of this mess with the Dirty Trick Scandal.

Just leave Hiliary alone. Let her and Obama duke it out. All the way to the primary. And when she loses, leave her in Washington, so we don't have to see/hear her in NY.

//Born Leftie, Coverted to the Right, now somewhere in the middle and leaning towards McCain.

Dictatorial_Flair 2008-03-30 04:59:42 AM
Truth be told, it's a hell of a lot easier to rig one election at a time. She'll probably have a much better chance just going for Lord of New York.

beefstu01 2008-03-30 05:00:19 AM
Oh dear, that'd be terrible. Hillary seems to forget that there's a whole state outside of the City, but that's also a fault a lot of other people. Upstate is a lot different than NYC- they make their money differently, but also though, it seems like companies are fleeing. It would be nice to see more business open up in the rest of the state, and to reinvigorate the other cities in NY (Syracuse, Binghamton, Buffalo, etc...). I'd love to still live in Ithaca, but unfortunately, there are no jobs there that I can take. Guess I need to settle for California for the time being.

Let's throw the people of New York under the bus and make Hillary governor. When Obama wins the presidency, she's stuck there for awhile, and we don't have to deal with her on a national level. At least until there's more dodging sniper action.

WolfinPHX 2008-03-30 05:08:12 AM
FTA: Some Democrats terrified that their bloody primary campaign will doom them in November are floating a consolation prize for Hillary Clinton: Governor of New York.

Fine by me. I'm still not voting for her.

As someone who really doesn't care one way or the other who wins the Democratic nomination, I just have to ask: Why would Hillary give up a Senator's seat to become a Governor??? Seems to me it would be a big step backwards, politically.

deevo 2008-03-30 05:36:11 AM
I didn't vote for Hillary for Senate most recently, but she's done a fair job representing the people of New York.

When people tell me that is their reason for supporting her over Obama, I can respect that a lot, because it's hard to argue with that logic. It's better reasoning than citing nonexistent policy differences between her and Obama or silly personality flaws. I have my problems with her on the Iraq war or video games, but I never disliked her as a person until this past month's Clintonian games.

So would I like her for governor? Ehhh, it'd not be so bad. After paying SUNY tuition for 4 years and then she'd probably go and make it universally free. But whatever.

/kidding, NYS and SUNY scholarships are paying ~80% of my tuition now anyway

Give her SCOTUS.

Gotta be better than a McCain nominee, like Justice Hatch or Justice Gonzales.

RealFarknMcCoy2:

Seems to me it would be a big step backwards, politically.

It'll give her executive experience, and, after having Obama thoroughly trash her in this primary, getting her ass out of Washington is probably exactly what they want. Last thing the Dems need is another DLC hack following Lieberman's example of embracing everything that's wrong with the current batch of Republicans.

Because the voting machines don't register votes for democrats?

She wouldn't take a state level job. She couldn't give Teddy and all of the other turn coat Dems the same level of payback if she gave up her national senate seat. The day of reckoning is coming.

I can't wait for the day when McCain's sorry ass beats Obama's sorry ass for president. The Clintons will be running around yelling "See I told ya" from a megaphone.

Yeah, that worked out real well when we did that in Alaska. What the hell were people thinking? Hopefully Stevens keels over before they decide to let him run the state for a few years.

Just put her on an ice floe and send her off to sea. It's better for everyone that way.

People! Why can't you realize that Hillary knows she's lost. She's just trying to confound Obama's 2008 campaign so she can come back and challenge in 2012.

Will she confess to smoke dope and snorting coke with Bill and his brother back in the 70's if she wins governor?

RealFarknMcCoy2: As someone who really doesn't care one way or the other who wins the Democratic nomination, I just have to ask: Why would Hillary give up a Senator's seat to become a Governor??? Seems to me it would be a big step backwards, politically.

C'mon McCoy a governor actually leads something. A governor has to bring both sides of the issues together to get legislation through. A senator runs an office of people to produce legislation. There has not been a Senator become prez since JFK. To me your comment is naive.

I like how the "letter" references a hypothetical Obama/McCain match up this year as Obama "likely to lose" despite the fact that nearly every poll that has been released about potential voters has him beating McCain by upwards of 10 points. It's actually Clinton who polls as the loser or in a statistical dead heat with McCain.

In any case, it's a moot point - I don't think that even with a win in PA that Hillary will be able to overtake Obama's delegate count. Last time I checked it seemed that Hill would have to win all the remaining contests by upwards of 60% of the vote before she could even come close to regaining the lead. It seems that her campaign recognizes this otherwise they wouldn't keep telling the "super delegates" that they need to "vote their conscious" instead of as they are pledged.

It's really kind of amazing how much "noise" there is out there when it's pretty obvious that Hill's campaign hopes had pretty much evaporated when it was decided not to seat or do a revote of the MI/FL delegates. That was pretty much her only shot and it seems to be gone now.
