What about Demetri Martin? I saw him last year and he was awesome. David Cross, on the other hand, is awful live. He marked at least 15-20 jokes off his list because he got either negative or no response to the material.

yeah ron white; i like him, but i always feel bad when they lump him in with the whole "blue collar comedy tour" thing because he always looks like he feels out of place.

Robin Williams' comedy routines and interviews are hilarious. His most recent movies need work, but the old stuff like Good Morning Vietnam are comedy gold. I defy anyone to watch Shakes the Clown and tell me that he isn't funny.

No, Dennis Miller was entertaining when he took potshots at everyone.

His shtick got old, his career went south, and he started doing 1-800 collect commercials. Then Fox News came along and dumped a dump truck of money on his front porch to come on and take potshots at whoever they wanted him to, and he agreed, being the egomaniac that he is and needing to bum change to keep himself caffeinated. He's been shuffled around the channel now like Kathleen Harris, embarrassing the hell out of whatever show he pops up on, tanking ratings, but like a blackmailing mistress, they keep having to endure him.

I can't say I blame him for cashing in, but he was irrelevant 15 years ago, and he only served to show what a joke any news channel really is by hiring a washed up comedian to commentate.

The first time I saw Dane Cook on television, I thought he was pretty funny, too. Then again, I didn't really have any appreciation for the art of stand up and I was an idiot teenager. As I got a little older and studied the structure of writing, his "jokes" I thought were funny before were revealed to be the obvious "Hey- wouldn't it be awesome if X!" or "You know what's badass? Y." "Remember Z?" audience-fellation his schtick really is.

What's even more funny is that some of the people that hate him (or more properly his fans) the most fell for the same schtick 10-15 years earlier when Dennis Leary was selling it under the "I'm/this is badass because of X and that's awesome because Y" paradigm.

You listened to (and laughed at) Dennis Leary because you didn't know if he was going to blow a coronary and keel over right there on stage.

I can still listen to, and laugh at, Leary's routines. I still have No Cure for Cancer and Lock & Load in my CD wallet. Maybe his joke formula isn't the most original (his delivery sure isn't), but his presentation was polished to the point where he was fun.

I was a dork in high school and college, and Dane Cook reminds me of the kind of guy *I* used to chuck stale beers at in those days.
