(AP) Scary Muqtada al-Sadr gives first interview since May of 2007. Says that he is in control of the Mahdi army, the American occupation is worse than Saddam and that liberation of Iraq is their goal. I guess the truce is off   (hosted.ap.org) divider line 187

Problem is he never sticks around for the fighting, he slinks off to Iran. He's spent more time in Iran than Iraq over the last several years.

Have you tried Googling it? A quick search finds mention of him going to Iran in articles from the AP), from ABC, and the BBC.

Mahdi Army commanders say their militia has been taking delivery of arms and cash from Iran, but al-Sadr sought to distance himself from the Iranians, saying he has recently told Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameini, that he did not approve of the "political and military interests" that Tehran pursued in Iraq.

I was going to snark you, but you answered your own moronic comment.

bullets work there just as well

Bullets and bombs don't. farking. work. you moron. If they did, we would have happily killed all the troublemakers and been out of there by the time Bushie was having the silk screeners run off the Mission Accomplished banner. But nooooo, let's go to Iran where we can magically kill off everyone who will ever be trouble, and suffer no consequences due to cultural and political upheavals!

one cannot go against the will of god.

they will gladly offer up the sons of the poor to increase the size of their wallets.

how many more zionist led wars must the united states endure before enlightened "americans" get a farking clue.

thanks to them...we haven't "won" a war since the war of 1812.

nothing but bloody misadventures of mayhem and greed.

Funny story.
When I was going to college in England, Muqtada al-Sadr was a student there. He was pretty much an ordinary guy. None of this radical shiat you see from him now.
We used to call him 'Mookie' and he didn't seem to mind. One night he pulled a crazy prank on the dean. He brought the dean's horse into his office and fired a gun next to its head. The horse went into cardiac arrest and keeled over in a frozen pose. We all ran back to our rooms and locked the doors.

good times.

Now I have to take back all my snarky posts from earlier this day. This is too important. This occupation has to end. Fark you if you've now taken the stance that we need to protect these people. If that is indeed your stance, you probably previously posted the always humorous "Glass. Parking. Lot." here on Fark.
We vacate.
See what happens.
And actually, that has been the same strategy you warmongers have thrust upon this nation and theirs since the beginning.
Invade.

You haven't used enough bombs or enough bullets to kill all the troublemakers. Don't be such a defeatist.

I would rather have the commander in chief of the United States armed force be someone who actually discharged a weapon during his military service than some asshat who spent the whole time candying up his nose. McCain may be a nutjob, but he earned the right to be a nutjob the old fashioned way, with many an onion tied to his belt.

Police refuse to fire on Mahdi army - turn their guns over instead.

In Baghdad, news agencies reported that many Shia were deserting from the Iraqi police force in what could turn into a stampede away from the central government.

About 40 policemen in Sadr City handed over their weapons to al-Sadr's local office, one of the policemen said yesterday. 'We can't fight our brothers in the Mahdi army, so we came here to submit our weapons,' one policeman said, on the condition he remained anonymous for security reasons.

A group of about a dozen uniformed police, their faces covered with masks to shield their identity, met local Sheik Salman al-Feraiji, al-Sadr's chief representative in Sadr City, who gave them each a copy of the Koran and an olive branch as they handed over their guns and ammunition.

Al-Sadr used to be a convenient scapegoat for the US, but now with the violence dropping in Iraq I'm sure his resurfacing will be viewed as a bad thing by the US military. I'm guessing he'll show up dead soon.

So, does this mean all those Enemy Combatants/Terrorists/Islamist Fighters/Secular Forces/Etc. are going to be upgraded to "Army" status in the media? I find it bizarre that they are not titled "enemy soldiers", but always some sort of generic evil term to describe a brown dude with a gun.

Uh... forgive me, but if you would urge the pulling out of US troops, then what does it matter if he stays? You would rather kill the man, make him a martyr, and leave it for another one to assume his position?
