Well, make a law where it's illegal to skip church on sunday. Herd the populace into church at gunpoint, and if they refuse to pray, that's a taserin'.

Hell, I quit drinking alcohol 20 years ago, but given a choice between dying of cirrhosis of the liver or going to church on sunday, I'll take the booze.

You know that holy water you anoint your face with? Yeah, drunks pee in that.

naked_sorrow 2008-03-29 06:14:04 PM
Yes, this is why I don't go to church here in Washington state. I'm too busy going to the grocery store buying wine and beer so I can drink all day.

Seriously, people should be able to buy and sell alcohol on Sunday. Restaurants can serve it, and really, what's the difference?

I'm tired of people wanting to legislate morality. And, no, it's not morality if after taking that drink you become drunk and drive or beat someone up.

"We like to have Sundays off and go to church and do whatever we want with our families," said Suzie Riga, vice president of Green's Beverages.

Yeah, right. I predict it'll take about 15 minutes for them to decide to open on Sunday once it's legalized.

I've always thought the no alcohol on Sunday rules were stupid. It's not like these laws keep anyone from drinking on a Sunday after all.

Personally, I almost never drink alcohol. Still I am all in favor of allowing alcohol sales in stores 24/7. If they could come up with a good. non-religious reason to restrict alcohol sales, then I would support them, but I have yet to see anyone even make a non-religious argument for the No Sunday Sales laws.

And this is the one that won't be buying on Sunday because it's the Lord's day? Hahahahaha!

That's my biggest beef with orgganized religion. They are the biggest bunch of hypocrites who are too busy pointing out the sins of the next person, while refusing to aknowledge their own.

And don't get me started on the Southern Baptist... they are the worst of the lot.

No, it's a place where people go for an hour a week, call themselves 'Christian' and behave the complete opposite the rest of the week.

Woo-hoo, a South Carolina thread! Boy, it'll be a big change if they allow booze to be sold on Sunday. And I know exactly where that Greene's is. That place is huge. Not surprised to know they need extra help directing traffic.

Then again, I moved from SC to Pennsylvania, which has even more retarded booze laws. It's embarassing not to be able to buy wine at a grocery store, when you can do that even in the Deep South.

Some people have addictive personalities and become dependent on drugs, alcohol or religion. I guess the church doesn't like the competition.

While reading this article, and going through the types and quantities of alcohol these people were buying to get them through ONE DAY without a liquor store, I'm forced to wonder: is the state of South Carolina populated entirely by alcoholics? This bit in particular should set off alarm bells for one poor woman's family:

"Janice Wise, 47, of Columbia, picked up a bottle of Jose Cuervo and an 18-pack of Bud Light. She hates running out of alcohol and having nowhere to turn."

said Ford, who bought a case of PBR and a 12-pack of Schlitz. "I hate overplanning. I like the continuity of going to the store Sunday and getting my beer."

My head's reeling from reading "PBR" "Schlitz" and "continuity" in the same sentence.

"We like to have Sundays off and go to church and do whatever we want with our families," said Suzie Riga, vice president of Green's Beverages.

I suppose going to church one day a week makes up for the other 6 where you're pushing the devil's liquid down people's throats.

And surely the main benefit of a government is legislating morality - i.e. making it illegal to kill people, steal, etc.

Pretty much, or they delude themselves into thinking that it's the Christian God, then it's somehow OK.

And this is coming from a Christian who is very ashamed and embarrased as how his brothers/sisters are acting

It "worked" in Mississippi. No new liquor stores or adult toy stores are allowed to be made. Yes, I am still pissed at Katrina for taking away my porn, strip, and liquor stores.

Also, Day_Old_Dutchie, I always had a feeling that a beer store was at the end of a rainbow and not a pot of gold.

/Friend of mine had an idea: She said that after she graduated from College((2-3 years left or so)) she was going to open up a porn shop. She figured by then that little law would be eliminated.

Snakeophelia: Then again, I moved from SC to Pennsylvania, which has even more retarded booze laws. It's embarrassing not to be able to buy wine at a grocery store, when you can do that even in the Deep South.

Well those laws are stupid, but they are there for different reasons. Nothing to do with religions there, it is the liquor lobby. Colorado is the same way. You can only get watered down beer in a grocery store. You have to go to a liquor store to get anything else. This, of course, means that every grocer has a liquor store right next door.

So why is it that way? Well the liquor stores have extremely powerful political pull and give lots of money to the right people. They realise that there would be much, much less demand for them if normal grocers could sell alcohol.

So that's just a case of a business interest playing politics.
