Yeah, Jim, you've got to be "stretching the analogy" as I've heard him say to think, "Hmmm, if you're calling him Judas, THEN..." Asshole.

FTA: I believe that loyalty is a cardinal virtue. Nowhere in the world is loyalty so little revered and tittle-tattle so greatly venerated as in Washington.

I think that these past 8 years have shown what happens when public servants put "loyalty" to a political figure above "loyalty" to the American people.

Eat a bag of dicks, Carville. You're a smarmy little fark and a relentless partisan hack. You care no more about the average American than does Karl Rove.

Why does anyone care what this bayou douchebag says? Everyone knows he is a Clintonoid - and I am pretty sure that Richardson and a WHOLE lot of other Dems are done being afraid of the Clintons - they are politically done.

I'm reposting because I think it's an awesome anecdote.

Carville famously advised Bob Casey, Sr. that he'd never be governor unless he went pro-choice. Casey's response?

Gee James, your statements about loyalty would ring a lot more true if you had called out George Stephanopoulos as a "Judas" when he publically criticized Clinton during the Lewinski scandal. Same goes for Dee Dee Myers.

But you didn't.
Selective indignation makes the indignation worthless.

White folks only want to hear the good shiat: life eternal, a place in God's Heaven. But as soon as they hear they're getting this good shiat from a black Jesus, they freak. And that, my friends, is called hypocrisy. A black man can steal your stereo, but he can't be your Savior.

Yeah, that sent a little chill down my spine. A political figure who respects loyalty over everything else? No farking way in hell am I ever going to vote for THAT shiat. 8 years of that crap has taken us down many a dark path.

I think he means that if the American people voted for Obama and then the superdelegates over turn that at the convention...all hell is going to break loose.

I hear he has said he endorses Obama and hopes he wins, but he is voting for Hillary because that is the way his constituency went. However I haven't done the research to find out if that is true or not.

Migaloo 2008-03-29 12:15:11 PM
My thoughts about political patronage was that it was to be frowned upon. Excluding the Clinton's POV. Along with all the lobbyist money H/dawg collected in campaign contributions, remains camp.

Richardson ran a presidential campaign and now is just supporting, in his view, a more qualified candidate. how does this make him a Judas.

The Clinton's must demand one sign over your soul, in blood, or no soup for you!

yequalsy 2008-03-29 12:17:09 PM
I fail to see how Richardson owes Hillary squat. She's never appointed him to anything.

Frankly this stuff doesn't bother.

A) first off, ENDORSING someone isn't the same as voting at the convention floor. Richardson could conceivably way he wants Obama and endorse him but still vote for Hillary to honor the will of NM voters at the convention.

B) The point of the "supers should vote with their states" line is to say the supers shouldn't be autonmous and should all reflect the will of the voters. This only works if EVEYRONE is doing it. But given that none of the supers are following Richardson's advice, I don't see any reason why he should.

The follow your state line is only rational if a good majority of supers agree to do it.

the_good_reverend_doctor: Didn't Richardson say that he thought superdelegates should support whoever their constituency voted for? Didn't New Mexico vote for Clinton? Isn't he a superdelegate?

It was a 49/48 split in New Mexico. I don't think he's bound one way or another, really. I think the argument was about states that were 60/40 and supers ignoring the vast majority of the voters.

I wish more people had your attitude. Too many look at whether there is a "D" or an "R" after a politicians or pundits name and based upon which letter they find praise or condemn the man.

The oath is to the United States. Not to the Republican or Democratic party.

I believe that loyalty is a cardinal virtue. Nowhere in the world is loyalty so little revered and tittle-tattle so greatly venerated as in Washington.

I don't believe that's true. Plenty of people stick by "their man" as it is the only way to stay ahead.

I was a little-known political consultant until Bill Clinton made me. When he came upon hard times, I felt it my duty -- whatever my personal misgivings -- to stick by him

Did you have any other options James? Judging by how much you're still a hanger-on, no.

Was it a desperate gambit for attention?

No, it was another case of James just opening his mouth and letting whatever fly out. Usually it is Louisana floksy amusing, this time it was in bad taste.

Even Diane Sawyer took the analogy to the extreme, questioning, "Are you saying that he made a deal of some kind when you talk about 30 shekels?"

James you're the one that opened it up. Maybe you're too dumb to continue on with your terrible analogies to their logical conclusions?

I think the country is sick of the typical Clinton politics. Things were a utopia when he was president. Clinton won't go down as one of the best presidents ever and his wife will not go down as a president, period.

But he had been bought and paid for with 2 cabinet posts in the previous Clinton administration! How dare he act like a free man.

It does seem odd to me that Carville would choose now to vilify Richardson. I guess running against Hillary in the primaries wasn't as disloyal as supporting the people's choice.

I am with Carville when he says that loyalty is a cardinal virtue. That's absolutely true. But I believe loyalty should be directed toward ideas, and not toward people.
