Yes. Yes she is.

Memphisluvr [recently expired TotalFark] 2008-03-29 07:02:41 AM
She is actress Zooey Deschanel, Him is alt-singer/songwriter M. Ward.

Is the writer looking for his frog?

Listened to the first sample... not my kinda voice. But thanks.

OMG, that's bad.

She is hot, though.

I love her voice but I am not a fan of this music. At all.

Damn. Strike 2. Her musical stylings just can't find any love on Fark today!

Hot but whiny. Reminds me of Carole Bayer Sager and I didn't buy it then either.

Richard Pye 2008-03-29 08:43:23 AM
I'd hit it from now until the end of the universe. And then some.

Sadly, I agree. Kate Bosworth does, too.

The albums not bad, but it would have been better had there been more equal parts She & Him. M. Ward adds the goodness to anything.

GibbyTheMole 2008-03-29 10:20:19 AM
Well... Richard Thompson makes an appearance, so that's a plus right there.

Milla Jovovovich frowns in disgust. (Her album was actually pretty incredible)

dmax 2008-03-29 11:32:19 AM
So that means Sinatra, Crosby, Dean Martin, Cybil Shepard, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and a few dozen others need to hide themselves in shame?

Or are we talking "movie stars in the reviewers obviously limited experience"?

Even with that:

ecx.images-amazon.com

Disagrees.

deevo 2008-03-29 11:36:23 AM
I was never a fan of her voice and thought it was always corny when she sang in her movies.

But I do enjoy the album and I heard M. Ward say that he was just the instrumentalist and pretty much everything was written by her, so I have to respect her for that.

DrBenway [TotalFark] 2008-03-29 01:35:28 PM
I don't think she was served well with the production. Would've rather heard her do something based around her cabaret act.

Still, I could think of worse things in the world than being, uh, sung to sleep by Zooey Deschanel and Scarlett Johansson.

MrWhipee 2008-03-29 01:46:14 PM
Meh.. I don't think this suits her voice very well. I was hoping for something more of a Julie London-like production. Her voice suits the standards.

This was too funny to pass without comment. I almost forgot about Hopkin Green Frog.

ObOntopic: I doubt this album is better than Heartbeat or The Return of Bruno.

dmax: So that means Sinatra, Crosby, Dean Martin, Cybil Shepard, Judy Garland, Barbra Streisand, and a few dozen others need to hide themselves in shame?

All of those were singers first... movie stars second.
Plus the fact that 50s stars were usually both.

theurge14 2008-03-29 03:11:27 PM
Oh she was the older sister in Almost Famous. Ok. Weird name.

Judy Garland and Cybil Shepherd were primarily singers before they got into acting? I did not know that.

I grabbed the CD a few days ago. Her voice is perfect for the material, and quite a refreshing change from the echo chamber voices that you hear. Finally, a singer who doesn't try to sound like all other singers!

She's also a surprisingly good songwriter. For an actor who has no background in songwriting, she's excellent.

I dug up six tracks last time this was mentioned on FARK and I've been listening to them constantly. A couple are in the most 25 played things on my iPod.

So I'm ethically obligated to purchase this Compact Disc, or CD as you call t.

That would be her. And her big sister, Emily, stars on Bones. Dad's a cinematographer, mom's an actress... one of them there Hollywood famblies.

/insert "Bones" joke in reference to either or both of the sisters here

30STM can lick my non whiny untattooed balls.

However, my friend got kicked in the face by Jared Leto.

She was at the concert in vancouver, up at the front and he pulled his rockstar kick out right onto her face. Boot print and all.

After the show he gave her a rose. Which frankly, is not that cool in comparison as a kick to the face.

I'd like to get kicked in the face by Zooey though, and by kicked in the face I mean "Have my balls sucked by"

Didn't care for her voice/style. But that's just from listening to samples.

If you root around on YouTube, you can find clips of her with All the Stars Were Pretty Babies or in similar settings. Much more to my liking...

There's a Farker who played in that band and had nothing but nice stuff to say about working with her. Can't remember who, though. Sounded like a cool gig.

Every time I have met Jared he's been nothing but cool. I don't get where the reputation of being a d-bag comes from.

She was a cabaret singer before her acting career took off. Or so she said on NPR yesterday.

No Dogstar love?

just kidding. I like this album, but it was a little inconsistent. I think their next one will be better.

Why Do You Let Me Stay Here is a great single, and I usually don't like that kind of fun-pop stuff.

Put me down for on the list of people who love her as an actress and even more as a singer.

/Milla's album is also great, well, The Divine Comedy is - The Peopletree Sessions is just insane.
//Let's not forget Shiny by Kari Wurher, either.
