the problem is, the media is making it what it is. a clinton or obama surrogate can't fart without wolf blitzer questioning whether it was an insult to the other candidate.

Yeah, those damn media. Don't they realize that a presidential campaign is a private event that they have no business reporting on? Damn them.

Where are these 'personal attacks'? It's been a pretty clean primary so far.

it's not a matter of not being able or allowed to cover the campaign. it's what they are covering.

obama gave 3 major policy speeches after his race speech. they went completely uncovered by the media. yet for some reason i know that bill clinton insinuated that obama didn't care about america through implicit language, that someone compared him to mccarthy for it and that carville called richardson judas.

major policy discussion not covered, some bald jackass hasbeen calling a governor judas is all over the news for days.

This. And the fact that the media morons are clearly enjoying this because it's "a story". They want this to drag on for months and their biggest dream would be that it goes all the way to the convention.

I Said [TotalFark] 2008-03-29 12:18:52 AM
Am I disgustingly biased or are the vast majority (if not ALL of the personal attacks, save "monster" for which the woman stepped down) coming from the Hill campaign and her army of darkness?

you have to wonder, if it weren't for the media coverage being the way it is, if Hillary would even still be in the race.

The personal attacks will stop when Hillary stops being an easy target.

Are you kidding? This primary's been Hussein! I mean insane. Insane like a preacher. I mean, not preacher, teacher, no wait he was just a lecturer. Whew, this paragraph's pretty trippy, it reminds me of someone who did pot in their youth. But you know that's not such a big deal, I'm sure Jesse Jackson did things like that in South Carolina to. I know this is all talk and no substance, like somebody else I know who might be a muslim, but let's not forget that sometimes the truth isn't just black and white, but somewhere next to Tony Rezko's wife's house.

/Seriously?

I read the two-part rant over on Hillaryis44 titled "Howard Dean Must Go - Hillary Clinton Will Stay" earlier tonight... So yeah, I'm sure her supporters will agree completely and stop the personal attacks. Nothing to worry about there.

Just imagine how different things would be right now if the Democrat Party nominated Dean in 2004. I wonder if the 2004 loss was "Nader's fault" too. Oh well, Dean is a good guy, and a solid second-amendment supporting progressive. He has some of the most sensible positions on guns that I've ever seen from a progressive.

Say what you will about Howard Dean, at least he would've fought back against the Rove attack machine in 2004...and that's more, sadly, than John Kerry can say.

Shaggy_C 2008-03-29 03:43:33 AM
Tsk, tsk.

You're confusing personal attacks from one candidate to the other with attacks from surrogates.

Fact is, most people could give a fark less about the clingers. We politicos care, but...hell, most Americans don't even know who Pastor Wright is and no one cares about who Carville calls Judas. Face it, we are the 'informed elite' as it were, and we have almost no connection with the common man any more.

It amazes me that, rather than trying to convince people not to vote for McCain that two candidates would waste their energies, monies and resources battling each other.

Negative campaigning sucks, but really. 4 more years of a Bush-style administration with equally creepy substitutions for Defense secretaries...

Descartes 2008-03-29 07:35:32 AM
But, but, but it's not a personal attack when my guy does it....

I just love how this forum turns into the very thing Dean is talking about. Amongst supposed Democrats no less. I'm assuming most of the Obamaniacs are at least voting the Democratic ticket for President this year.

/knows what happens when we assume.

biased? i gave examples of them doing it to both sides, and they were doing it during the republican primaries too. remember when romney "exploded" and "erupted" at the press? someone asked him a stupid question and he said so. ooooooo i'm afraid.

it's not bias. it's a lack of integrity. it's being down so far in the gutter that legitimate political discourse is flying way over their head, out of their view. they can't be bothered, they're too busy trying to make up scandals.

here's one of them... it's broken up into 8 pieces, this is the first one.

obama on national security and iraq

here's the other.

obama on the cost of war

Primarily from the Clinton side. But she isn't going to win. I wonder if she planning on becoming a tool of the GOP or if it just kind of happened?

Murkanen 2008-03-29 03:37:50 PM
Neeek

Iraq and Security (new window)

Iraq and the Economy (new window)

Both are the full speeches. There are a few other speeches that he's given since then as well, but these are the last two in the three part policy speeches.

He gave them right after the race speech, so they were overshadowed during that news cycle.

Obama hasn't really attacked Hillary personally. The worst he has done is defend himself from her attacks.
