why would they try when any success from it would be credited to Bush and not them?

As if ANY politician has any interest in actually helping out the country over what will make them look good.

why wouldn't they wait until the inevitable democratic president that won't resist the changes?

bush has made his plans clear for the economy, and this close to the change up, there's no point in dealing with him.

Yes, but help is needed now, no? Besides, what would it hurt to try? Isn't that what they get paid to do?

If they can't or won't cooperate with difficult people from their own country, how are they expected to do the same with those from foreign countries?

burndtdan 2008-03-28 08:49:17 AM
Last One Left: Yes, but help is needed now, no?

of course help is needed now. but that's the point. any help they could get now would be a protracted battle that would last until the election anyways. the president sure as shiat isn't going to do anything, he's made that clear, and the republicans in congress are not going to start rocking the party boat in an election year.

help is needed now, but help isn't coming now, no matter what they do about it. enjoy your $600, hope we all get through the next few months in one piece.

Psst: Partisan tards

There are 533 other members of Congress who are still available to craft legislation.

The Executive holds power over federal institutions like the Fed that Congress doesn't affect.

Making a speech does not automatically prevent you from working on legislation today.

Making a speech could provide inspiration to others working on legislation today.

It is not uncommon that presidential candidates focus on their campaigns.

What is John McCain doing?

I'm fairly certain that McCain's true agenda has little/nothing to do with how he's campaigning.

Hillary will continue the Chimpy agenda. That much is certain. Why else would she cockblock her own party?

Obama will be OK but, by the time he realizes how screwed-up everything is at the top-secret levels, it will be too late for him to react so he'll spend his term peeing on fires.

Ron Paul would accomplish very little of what he's campaigning for, but I'm confident he can soften the inevitable landing.

You really should all vote for Ron Paul.

You should. Trust me, I know.

Because it might get a lot of the debate and infighting out of the way. "You know that bill vetoed by Former President Bush? Well, I will sign it the same day Congress puts it on my desk."

Jeeze subby, learn a little bit about how Congress works. The Senate cannot originate bills to change taxes or to spend Federal funds.

How are they going to be able to turn the market around without spending Federal funds or changing the taxes?

Lionel Mandrake [TotalFark] 2008-03-28 12:00:55 PM
Apparently people are running out of even vaguely legitimate criticisms of Obama...

Didn't McCain say he had "a plan" for Iraq, but wouldn't share it until he was elected?

Google-fu is weak in this one this morning...

Aw come on... if subby spent time learning how the government actually works, that'd take time away from scaring all those pesky Billy Goats Gruff that keep tramping over his bridge.

They're a little too busy campaigning, same as McCain. I don't like it either, but that's the way it is in America. Every politician spends a chunk of each term on the campaign trail.

fortunately McCain's absences from the senate are completely irrelevant since he's already committed to doing absolutely nothing. He can't warn America strongly enough about the dangers of doing something different.

Well, first off, they're campaigning. Like it or not, they NEED to do that to win the presidency. Besides, they're just 2 people in a crowd of hundreds in the Senate.

Second, even if they come up with something they like, Bush would veto it... so yes, why bother trying when you know it won't get pushed through? Why not wait 10 months from now when one of them takes office and then possibly get some things done.

Obama: More regulation, free cake
McCain: "Shanna, they bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash."

The question is, what could they do? Obama and Clinton basically say bail the borrowers out and more regulation of lending practices for the future, neither of which fix the problems at hand.

McCain says screw 'em. I'm not voting McCain, but I can agree with the sentiment in this case. At most, I'd be for clearer description of the risks -- mandate plain English -- but subprime loans have their place in the real world.

Neither Clinton nor Obama have said anything that would really stop the current problems in the economy, they would just make it more difficult to do business in the future.
