Don't act so surprised. Religion is big business. Especially if you're preaching to a nominee for a Presidential election.

Shafted by the powers that be once again. Alas.

Powers, why not allow subby's -ahem- gifts to be shown in their original brilliance? You can't defy the U.S. bell curve.

He's retiring to suburban Chicago?
Hell, I wouldn't want to live there, let alone retire there.

And if I was forced to live there, it would take a much better house than that to lure me.

No offence to Subby but that's a pretty typical looking house/McMansion where I live.
And trust me, I'm no fan of the closet racist/plastic politician, Obama. I'm just saying, of all the things to attack the guy with, this is weak.
Have you tried his proposed policies?
They're commulicious.

Leave it to Fox news to focus on the house a former paster to a candidate will live in...in the future.

"Coming up, we've learned that Reverend Wright sh*ts in a toilet costing TWICE as much as the average toilet, and some people are shocked. We'll hear what you think about it, next on Fox News..."

bmr68: The business of hate and racial division has treated him well.

As well as the business of being in the military and being on the board of directors of a nursing school, but yeah, he's just a hatemonger with deep pockets.

Not like Pat Robertson, he makes his money the red-blooded American way: Milkshakes that help you cheat death (new window).

Right, because if it were McCain spiritual adviser of 20 years preaching the extreme hate that Wright is, CNN would made it a story for just a day. Right?

They wouldn't report it at all. Surely I don't need to cite Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson's endorsements and advising of G.W. Bush. Nor do I need to post links to their quotes, either. The MSM politely ignored those two hateful sacks of monkey pus. Fortunately for them, they're not spooky, scary black men.

Doctor Funkenstein

Wait. Is the right criticizing a religious figure for his extravagant lifestyle? Well, damn, nice to finally have you guys on board.

Well, this particular religious figure makes a big point of criticizing materialism and "middle-classism", so there's a sizable load of hypocrisy in his case.

Shaggy_C 2008-03-27 11:05:08 PM
A $1.6 million home at his age, living in Chicago? Not as unlikely as you might think. He probably put 20% down on a 2 million home which is only a couple hundred grand. For all you farkers crying about personal responsibility it looks like he did pretty well pulling up those boot straps. Being oppressed by all that racism and everything...

"Well, Protestants don't have the idea that their religious leaders should live modestly or aesthetically."

Of course, that's why the tax break helps.

We're not talking Buddhist monks or Catholic priests here. There's no tradition that says they have to live poor"

I don't get why people think Catholic priests take vows of poverty when it is not generally the case.

Corpus Delecti 2008-03-27 11:08:12 PM
Damn, Obama must be the best candidate in the HISTORY OF THE WORLD, if all his detractors can come up with is "Uh, some guy Obama knows has a (moderately) nice house".

I say "moderately" because I live in Silicon Valley, where 1.2 million dollars is not exactly the extravagant Super Rich Lair of the Extremely Wealthy that the average Farker seems to believe. You know what you have if you own a 1.2 million dollar house in Santa Cruz? A two bedroom box that happens to be near a beach. Hell, my boss owns a five million dollar home, and the one I'm leasing appraised for 750k. Apparently, most Farkers work the fry station at McDonalds or something, because there's no other way to explain how shocked, shocked I say, so many of you appear to be over a million dollar house.
