I don't think so either. If you've been paying much attention to the news lately, it would appear that the democrats are in self-destruct mode. Or hadn't you noticed the little squabble going on?

Economy collapsing.
Political prisoners being released from jail.
GOP as popular as syphilis.

I would worry about your own problems before shedding any tears over the disputants in a primary race.

I live in Houston.

I've seen a case against a democrat politician in Houston thrown out by the judge for no evidence.
In another case against a republican judge, the grand jury indicted over the DA's objection.

Not building confidence in the system.

Just because this one is going on longer than usual doesn't make it a self destruct sequence...

That usually involves a pleasant female voice counting backwards.

There are no pleasant female voices in politics. Especially not on the Democratic party side.

So you think the Texas GOP just sat around and didn't learn from the Feds?

When you consider that Texas has an openly partisan method of selecting judges, it very well be that the Feds learned from TX.

More government sure hasn't solved anything so far, so let's pile on even more!

Sorry, not making a lot of sense.

I'm from Alabama, live in Birmingham, hate Karl Rove and everything to do with the GWB administration. But Siegelman was exceptionally corrupt and deserved his sentence, along with former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy, with whom he had shady business dealings with. Rove's influence is incidental. So before you celebrate too hard, realize that a guilty man is leaving jail on a technicality.

Let's see,
news story about a politician having trouble with the law? Check.
No mention at all of party affiliation? Check.
A quick google informs you that it's (D)? Check.

Farkers who would be celebrating his conviction if he were an (R)
instead celebrating the possibility that his conviction could be overturned? Check.

//Just another day in paradise.

RandomKeyStrike 2008-03-27 10:03:20 PM
I think subbie overstated the case a bit. It remains to be seen whether Seigelman accepted bribes or not. Schrushy's role in making HealthSouth the Enron of the South is essentially beyond dispute, and I doubt his keen sense of personal ethics would keep him from offering a bribe if it suited him.

I am *not* disputing that Rove almost certainly (and I only use words like "almost" and "essentially" because I wasn't there) helped orchestrate the prosecution as a political matter. But I'm old school enough to believe it's not really entrapment if they just caught you doing what you were already doing.

That said, Rove, Seigelman, and Schrushy in the same cell, could this somehow be arranged, would be a bi-partisan trifecta. In short, to use the punchline of several old jokes, a good start.

/yeah I'm from Bama

RandomKeyStrike: But I'm old school enough to believe it's not really entrapment if they just caught you doing what you were already doing.

The accusation in this case is that Scrushy offered money not to Siegelmann himself, but instead to fund a campaign for a state lottery and that he was rewarded by getting to remain in a seat on an advisory board that he would likely not have had to leave anyway.

There is precious little quid and a negligible pro quo.

And the evidence was fabricated.

Did FreeRepublic go down or something?

So.. if one person says something and that means that everybody in their party believes it.

It's the Republicans who believe in black helicopters and water fluoridation conspiracies.

They also believe that Barack Obama is a Muslim.

Or maybe they'll just devote 30 minutes to discussing Obama's scary black pastor man.

So we should be smart by believing that Iraq was behind 9/11 and we should have voted for the thinking man's candidate George W. Bush?
