As a long time fan of the band, I'm kind of conflicted. I loved Sonny mayo and what he added to the band, but Clint was great (except for the 3rd record.)

will wait and see.

I was a fan of Sevendust when I was in high school; first heard them in '98 or '99. I haven't heard much from them since that time. I have to caveat that by saying that I also haven't been actively looking for their new stuff either.

They could replace their guitarist with the Sta-Puf Marshmallow Man and it would still be Sevendust, so who cares?

"Lowery was a key member of the SEVENDUST attack"

They should have surrendered.

Disagree... The 3rd album wasn't that great, and with the line-up change, Sonny helped bring back to Sevendust what made their early albums great. Clint's band followed the same path that the 3rd album was taking. But he was there for the strong beginning.

Kind of conflicted

Who writes the songs? My guess is that it isn't these two.

Sorry, I mean 4th album (Seasons), not 3rd

Now if they can only figure out how to get all of their songs to stop sounding the same. It's a shame when a band peaks with their first album.

Teyeger 2008-03-27 02:09:30 PM
So they went back to the first guy, then?

That headline was the text equivalent of a Rube Goldberg machine. -1.

Love Sevendust. I like Sonny, but Clint brought that groove which fueled their early albums. This can only be a good thing.

Next sucks.
Alpha kicks ass.
And I actually liked Seasons (for what it was).

I guess Dark New Day is finished, too.

Actually, Clint wrote a majority of the riffs on the first four albums (to my understanding).

Wow, forgot all about those guys. Sweet fellas.

The answer, subby, is "apathetic."

The judges also would have accepted "disinterested."

Didn't Cheap Trick try this years ago?

therumblefish 2008-03-27 03:05:41 PM
I love Sevendust, but their last three albums have been significantly weaker than the ones before them. Since these were the albums without Clint, I think it's fair to hold out hope that his return will bring back some of the awesome riffage that made them great.

/Still a great live show no matter what

2and4 2008-03-27 03:10:54 PM
I'm not normally a fan of bro metal, and they are a bit repetitive, but they do get down live. I'll go see them anytime.

bleeding munk 2008-03-27 03:39:39 PM
Sevendust licks the monkeys tick spotted anus. Therfore I couldnt give a continental turd............. Thrash metal all the way \m/

Arbitrator 2008-03-27 03:48:31 PM
Animosity is the only album of theirs that compelled me enough to go buy it (I borrowed the first two albums and thought they were ok, and the sound clips of subsequent albums were meh).

Still, I'd like to see them live. I think they toured last year, but I couldn't find any info on their website or Ticketbastard, so I gave that up pretty fast. A real shame. I've heard they're great.

Does anyone else find it a little shiatty that they basically told this guy, "Bugger off, we got our first choice back"? Unless the press release is just political-speak that he wasn't cutting it as a songwriter. But if he was doing his job right, then it's a little low IMO to toss him out on his ass just because Clint is back.

I'm consistently amazed this band is still around.

Ethyl Engine 2008-03-27 04:07:46 PM
I've always felt their guitarists were more of the 'effect pedal wizard' type, and not to great on technical playing ability. I mean, they could produce amazing tones and a lot of rythmic point and counterpoint interaction but sometimes i just wish for a little shredding.

/Haven't thought about these guys in a long while...

Sherjo311 2008-03-27 04:32:53 PM
To me, this sucks on both fronts -
1.) Sonny was an excellent addition to Sevendust and provided a new sound for them while keeping the traditional chugging sustain going. (But I am biased here a bit - I'll give a listen to anyone who throws in a guitar player from Snot, I STILL love that band. Case in point, Mike Smith with Limp Bizkit).
2.) Dark New Day is an amazing band. Their singer has a great range, and they don't overdo the "heavy" aspect of their rock. I agree with M-16A2pilot in that DND did somewhat remind me of Sevendust at the time of Seasons (and Animosity), but not enough to rule out the distinction of it being a "new sound".

So I guess we'll see how things unfold on this one...

/oh yeah, and neil peart sucks

The lead singer of Sevendust is the most frighting man ever.

LOL

Lajon is one of the best vocalists in metal today, IMO (but then I'm not exactly a metalhead besides the prog stuff). He's pretty intense...

In college I got the chance to interview Sevendust on their tourbus after a show for a radio station I was working at. I offered one of them a dip of chewing tobacco and he had to spit it out because he almost puked. They also drank gatorade and jaeger.

I wasn't impressed. Cool guys still.

Welocme back Clint, thanks again for the autographed CD.

/saw Sevendust open up for Nunu Bettencourt at the Zoo in Savannah in 96.
//Clint used to date my ex g/f

Forgive the stupid question, but I'm old and can't remember things anymore, but Clint was still with the band when they did the tribute to James Lee Strait, right?

Apparantly you do, since you decided to comment.

Yes. He, Lajon and Max Cavalera were the catalysts in making that album come to life.

I work with his dad, one of the most straight-laced people I've ever met.

whatever

I dig the Dust.
Lajon is one of the best vocalists in hard rock today, and they're great live.
I wasn't big on Next or Animosity, but I dig all of their other albums, including Chapter VII.
