I like Pearl Jam...A lot...Not so much a fan of the solo stuff.

I like the song "Love Boat Captain".

Thread needed a comment.

It pisses me off that one day there will be a wave of nostalgia for the fashions and music of the 90s.

Passive Aggressive Larry [TotalFark] 2008-03-27 01:23:40 PM
theres about 100 better Pearl Jam songs than that, and why would I care about Eddie Vedders guitar when Mike McCready and Stone Gossard are way better guitarists?

I Like Bread 2008-03-27 01:29:14 PM
Good song, but I thought "Thumbing My Way" was the best on that album.

The_Time_Master 2008-03-27 01:33:35 PM
as if somehow...

a) the guitar was responsible for the greatness of the song
or
b) some of Eddie's "Essence" rubbed off as he strummed the strings of said guitar.

I Like Bread: Good song, but I thought "Thumbing My Way" was the best on that album.

Here here. While I dig the whole album, I think "Thumbing" is the truly memorable song that will stand the tests of time.

While a lot of the time I am partial to their ballads and both "Thumbing" and "LBC" are great, "Save You" would be my top pick from "Riot Act". I have it as a ring tone.

bigbearchaseme 2008-03-27 01:43:15 PM
if Eddie's essence rubs off on someone, do they start saying "umm" alot and get an inflated sense of self-importance?

After seeing them in 2002 in Montreal, "You Are" became my favorite song off that album. The whole crowd seemed to be in a trance during it...

//could have been the strobe lights timed with the massive reverb

Wettner 2008-03-27 02:21:49 PM
I don't like LBC, so I hope he is paying you to take the guitar off his hands.

Give me the guitar used to write Hail, Hail.

Tad Sexington 2008-03-27 02:25:26 PM
Also wanted to note that I think Riot Act is a decent album but probably on the bottom step of their stuff. i really think it was them spitting one out to satisfy their last album contract obligations with Epic.

The self titled album was a big jump up.

SonicReducr 2008-03-27 02:35:00 PM
Riot Act best song = Cropduster.

dothemath 2008-03-27 02:53:22 PM
'Black Hole Sun' is, by far, their greatest song.

Put me down for Cropduster...

And didn't Alice in Chains do Black Hole Sun?

Can I bid on the guitar used to write Sweet Lew?

srhp29 2008-03-27 03:46:21 PM
Black Hole Sun = Soundgarden (I can't remember if it is one or two words)

Rudy? Rudy the Rabbit?

Pearl Jam = teh sux

The dude sounds like 50 other medio-core YEEEEEEEEAHH bands. Alice in Chains, STP, Silverchair, Creed etc LAME LAME LAME!

How dare you include Alice in Chains on a list with Creed, you sonofabiatch.

"Riot Act" is pretty ok...
My favourite tracks are: "Save You", "I am Mine", "You Are", and of course, last but not least "Thumbing my Way" [which i agree with farkers further up in the thread that it is probably THE best song overall on the disc.

While i liked their latest self titled album, part of me thought it was too slick, to contemporary... but then I thought that it was a good midway point between the not-so-goodness / experimentalness of Binaural and Riot Act and the commercial stuff of their earlier albums... There ARE a bunch of great songs, on the self titled one, tho....

To me, Riot Act, and particularly Binaural are rather hit and miss.... mostly miss for "Binaural"... too many tracks, a bunch just don't grab me or interest me very much.... but each of those albums has at least a *few* good songs...
[btw, Yes, I understand that Vedder had writer's block during the making of Binaural...]

However, the string of "Vitalogy", "No Code" and "Yield" are three wicked awesome consecutive albums... IMHO... the flow really well, great songs/songwriting, neat slight genre hopping,
great ballads, wicked rockin' [crushing?] rockers, neat interesting/weird interludes/extras [ie. "Pry, To", "stupid mop", "I'm open", "aye davinita"].

i'm not much of a fan of "Ten" [GASP!].... mostly the first side...the radio songs...
and i really haven't heard "VS", tho i listened to it once a decade ago in a record shop...

Forgetting all the other bands you listed that came after PJ... Layne Staley sounds nothing like Eddie Vedder. He sounds more like Axl Rose than Vedder.

I have not heard SilverChair lately, but from what I remember back in the day, their singer didn't exactly have a deep voice either.

Maybe with age it is no deeper. I know they are still putting stuff out.

Silverchair isn't even a grunge band anymore. They're like a more pop oriented Flaming Lips now. If you don't fall asleep, they're actually pretty damn good.

so in other words, nirvana sucks too because the same can be said of them and a bunch of bands that came after, Led Zeppelin sucks because of all the shiatty hair bands in the 80's, and the beatles suck because, my god, do you know how many bands are influenced by them?!

wrong

1. Yellow Ledbetter (despite the unintelligible mumbling)
2. Black
3. Rearviewmirror
4. Corduroy
5. Nothingman

SlothB77: Dude, it's not wrong- it's an opinion. I think it's a cool list. To me, Yellow Ledbetter is better because of the unintelligible mumbling, not despite it. Music is subjective, and all the better for offering the opportunity for people to get different things from it.

gravity-always-wins: Thanks for throwing that in there. I was wondering how a personal list could be wrong?

JamMasterJamie: Good list as well, always loved "In My Tree", makes me feel good everytime I hear it. Reminds me of surfing in Santa Cruz.

Fail

Ten is by far the worst album.

/older than 25
//seen PJ 31 times since 1994
///seeing 4 shows on this tour
////yay

Cythraul: I'm older than 25, and no TEN is not the only album worth listening too. I would just put you in the group of casual fans who stopped listening to PJ after Vs.

SonicReducr: Ten is definitely not by far their worst album. i'd seriously have to say Riot Act falls into that category. but then again, music is all a case of personal opinion. So to each their own. Although props go to you for the Screen name, I always liked that song, one of Bad Radio's better ones.

/seen PJ 13 times since 96
//shoke Eddie's hand in Vancouver 2001
/// willing to put hand up on ebay
//// that is all

Ten just sounds bad now... far too over produced.

Sonic Reducer was a Dead Boys song. The only Bad Radio song the band has ever done was Betterman.

And I think you mean Vancouver 2000... there was no Vancouver show in 2001.

Tad Sexington 2008-03-28 03:28:49 PM
SonicReducr: You are correct it was 2000. Is it true that Vedder wrote Betterman when he was 11? Did Bad Radio cover Sonic Reducer then? Cause I have a version of them playing it.

JamMasterJamie: Speaking of Mother Love Bone, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns may be one of my all time favorite tunes. Great stuff, I enjoy the PJ cover of it as well.

Anybody heard the Vitalogy basement tapes? Pretty cool stuff.
