So Indian company is going to produce crap and sink the brand name, then the company who sold the brand names will buy it back for half the price.

Hasn't Jaguar been rapped enough by Ford.

And exactly how would this be different from what Ford did?

Or, for that matter, what the Brits themselves did? Even pre-Ford, those cars were notoriously finicky and expensive to keep around.

They might have been expensive to keep around, but way better off before Ford got them.

How do you make a small fortune? Start with a very large fortune, then buy a flagging car brand...

The Tata family is not Hindu. Or Muslim. Or Sikh. Or Buddhist. Or Christian. Or atheist.

hehe fuhny
tatas actually make cars that survive driving conditions in india/africa/china and so on...
take that and add luxury from jag and you might get a decent car ...
and land rover is a great brand (at least in los angeles for the rich soccer moms) so as long as they improve it or keep it the same tata stands to make money
// go tatas
/// woohooo india
//// shameless i tell you shameless

i think its because india is a source of some of the worst music ever, we're talking an entire country that falls short of Ashlee Simpson's L-O-L-O-L-O-V-E song

Not to be one to pick the nit, but how is this a music thread?

Jaguar's lowest point was when they were economising on everything and as a result bits started falling off the cars once they got to about 3-5 years of age. All of a sudden nobody wanted to buy a Jag any more.

And now they've been sold to a company specializing in making basic transport as cheaply as possible. This doesn't really bode well.

Malcolm Sayer and Sir William Lyons are rolling in their graves.

Is this the final proof we need that the sun has set on the British empire?

Really? What did Ford do to F up Jaguar? They improved their manufacturing and product devolpment. Jaguar was in a sad sad state when Ford bought them. That's why they bought them. They didn't go out and buy an awesome company and ruin them. Jaguar was already ruined and Ford was trying to bring them back. It was an investment. Buy low and sell high. The only problem is that Ford doesn't understand luxery cars. They tried to offer a Jag for under 30 grand and that plan failed. They also failed to keep up with the other luxery car makers. Ford didn't f up Jaguar they just didn't do enough. They kept it from dying and that's about it. Hopefully Tata will invest a buttload and get them up to date with technology.

I'd argue that Jaguar has done pretty well by Ford. The new XK is awesome, and the XF looks like it will be a competitive car. What's more, they are both NEW cars, not stupid throwbacks to old glory days.
