Cargill Meat Solutions

Jesus Christ, what a sh*tty name. Who in their right mind would eat meat from a corporation that promised 'meat solutions'?

If Fark is worth its salt, this thread won't be about absurdly volcanoing preformed patties and ribeyes caught in tree branches, but about the soulless, perspectiveless committee thinking that even entertained the notion Cargill Meat Solutions might even approach being an acceptable name for an abbatoir.

I'm just thinking about the woman they interviewed who was staying in the hotel behind the meat packing plant.

I want her travel agent.

And what's the deal about the Booneville principal? There is a whole other story here me thinks.

hillbillypharmacist: Cargill Meat Solutions.

It's Cargill.

Cargill : Archer-Daniels Midland :: Bechtel : Halliburton
(approximately; Halliburton is more purely oil services now)

It doesn't surprise me that they consider processing of animal flesh to be a "solution".

skifdank 2008-03-23 07:56:09 PM
Wolfmanjames: perhaps slightly irrelevant.. It's from an image search for hot or hotness which I figured was at least semi-related.

Gregory F. Stuart: I'm unsure, but if you poke around in their index where I found this pic, I don't doubt you could get more info on them.

You will, and you will never know it (new window).

But, you are right. It is just the kind of name you'd expect from a soulless corporation like Cargill.

ps
The Booneville plant seems to be a Cargill Value Added Meats Facilities. More bang for the buck.

dipdunk 2008-03-23 08:08:35 PM
"value added" meats sounds like some soulless middleman bought cheap and is selling high, or maybe taking one ton of ground chuck and adding 5 oz ground sirloin to resell as "premium" somehow.

Hey, they're offering not just meat but meat solutions. Who wouldn't want help with their meat problems? I know I would.

Value Added means that any redneck within 100 miles of the plant may stop by the conventient conveyor belt in the back and dump all the road kill they can run over at 12.5 cents per pound.

Ammonia assplosion.

Ok, I am quite aware of said facility. Visited there(said facility) recently. They produce hamburger patties/roast beef for major fast food chains, and steaks for some sit down restaurants, etc. You have probably consumed something from that facility and been unaware of it. Especially if you have been in the southern region of the country in the last decade.

The biggest item related to this is that there were no injuries, from the fire or ammonia release. The next is that the entire town is now going to have issues with employement in an already down economy. They are a full hour from the nearest population center large enough to handle 800 workers looking for employment.

//For my two sense, as an employee, Meat solutions does sound off
///Thats why they recently changed it to Cargill Animal Protein

I have also been to said facility numerous times and worked in that division of Cargill Foods at one time. The operation takes sub-primal cuts of beef and cuts them to portion controlled steaks, ground beef, etc. Thus the "added value". They do seem to change name of the division every few years for whatever reason - over the last 10 years that plant has been under the moniker of Cargill Processed Meat Products, Excel Specialty Products (Excel is/was the meat division of Cargill Foods), EM Pack, and Cargill Meat Solutions. I am not familiar with the Cargill Animal Protein name, but that sounds like it would be more affiliated with the Feed Division.

Major customers included Outback, Sonic, Arby's, Ponderosa and a lot of private label products. It will be interesting to see what becomes of the operation - that community has seen a number of setbacks over the past few years with the closing of two other manufacturing facilities resulting in the loss of approximately 400 jobs. The freezer was added to that building approximately 7 years ago and that plant had increased its workforce the past few years.
