He lived to 64?
Obviously he never ate any of his own food.
That stuff is greasy poison.

TommyymmoT: Hey, did you hear what happened when the pope went to mount Olive?

Popeye ate some spinach and kicked his ass.

All the Popeye's in this area closed up. Is the chain as a whole in trouble?

Norad [TotalFark] 2008-03-23 08:58:46 PM
Goddamn, Popeye's kicks some ass. Best fast-food yicken going.

Cajun mashed potatoes from Popeye's: Bring me it. A whole LOT of it!

I get out plenty. Mock all you want, Popeye's is one grand guilty pleasure of mine.

Had my first Popeye's around Christmas when I was in St. Louis.

Makes KFC taste like cardboard. Any drive-thru that can give me red beans & rice is all right by me.

Norad: I get out plenty. Mock all you want, Popeye's is one grand guilty pleasure of mine.

I don't eat fried foods anymore, but every time I was in the right terminal at Atlanta Hartsfield I used to grab some Popeye's spicy strips and a couple of sides. In retrospect, wolfing a cup of red beans and rice before a four-hour flight might not have been the brightest, but it wasn't bad fast food.

Copeland, who was 64, had been diagnosed shortly before Thanksgiving with a malignant salivary gland tumor.

Hmmm...

I like to get a box of Popeye's at the airport before my flight and stick it in the overhead.
Makes the flight smell real goooooood.

KFC? I wouldn't eat it with your dick.
Except for their cole slaw.

You know you are surrounded by a ghetto when you are near a Popeye's. you know when you are in an even worse area when you are near Church's chicken. Now it makes sense this man owned both of those company's.

I have to admit, Popeye's has the best chicken strips around.

Even though I yike Piepie, Harold's is definitely the very best fried chicken widely available in Chi-town.

/mostly in the blackest chicago neighborhoods
//wish harold's had red beans & rice as a side, that would make them perfect

I Routinely drive 90 mile round trip for Popeyes, I pass 4 KFC's on the way and back. When you're in the mood for someone elses fried chicken, nothing but Popeyes hits the spot!

yagottabefarkinkiddinme 2008-03-23 11:43:49 PM
I have eaten Popeye's fried chicken & biscuits since it started. The chain was great until Al Copeland lost the franchises. They are changing things and it is not as good as the food Al Copeland's Popeyes served.

Al Copeland had a Super Popeyes in Metairie that served also grilled chicken...and margaritas. That was good eating. It closed due to that biotch Katrina.

He held the rights to supply the spices, bbq sauce and I believe the red beans and rice. I guess his son will step up and fill his position.

This guy went from rags to riches, Rags meaning real farkin' poor to holy crap rich. He put on a Christmas display that everyone went to see. If you didn't you were a grinch.

This makes me wary of wikipedia, I checked wiki online to see Al Copeland's updated wiki page to see if he was well. It said he was doing great. Louisiana loved him and loved to hate him. I bet they will miss him now that he is gone.

THIS.

Popeye's is just about the best you can get when it comes to fast food chicken. I found it rather ironic that he worked for KFC before starting his own chicken shacks. The fact he took example on how NOT to do the food made his shiat taste so much better.

/11 spices and herbs?
//Was 9 of those spices shredded paper pulp?
///Popeye's sooo kicks your ass, Sanders

I don't give a fark what PETA says, I have to have my fried chicken.

Wulfhardt 2008-03-23 11:46:11 PM
Jeez, 64 is a little young, for today's society. Maybe he was sampling his own product a little too often.

Still, as an occasional thing, their spicy chicken strips are outstanding, especially with their mustard dip. Yummy stuff, if you already have a taste for fried chicken. Which, incidentally, their fried chicken also kicks nine kinds of ass.

Anyhow, RIP Mr. Popeye's Chicken Guy.

Harold's has been making the rounds in the 'burbs now. East Side of Aurora has one. (thank god)

Even down in Bloomington-Normal they've got one, it just moved to a choice location right near the ISU Campus too. They used to have Dirty Rice, but for the time being their menu is abbreviated. If I remember right they had Red Beans at one point too.

/Waiting for Spring, when their menu is expanded again

Not true, I've seen Popeye's in nice areas.

It's a shiat ton better than KFC. Especially the biscuits.

I went to Memphis a couple years ago and went to Church's. I wasn't surprised that it was owned by Popeye's, considering it's pretty much the same thing.

They tried to get one here in Joliet right off Jefferson street, but for some reason it just didn't hold. It was there for about a year and a half, then it folded to make way for a Maxwell Street Polish-Type place.

Not sure if they're gonna try again any time soon, but I'm still willing to give it a try.

No, it wasn't me, because if I have an ill-advised meal I will hold it. And not nap.

I will not fall asleep and crack a rat every fifteen minutes.

I loves me some Popeye's. Can't get it in Seattle, unless I go way out of my way. Was passing through Dallas/Fort Worth last fall and notice they had a Popeye's in the terminal after getting some McD's - tossed what was left of my McD's order and got a nice big order of spicy chicken, biscuits, red beans and rice - and didn't look back...

Which is an American tragedy.
