It also comes with +2 to piercing resistance.

Yeah, if "frequent knife attacks" is in the job description, don't bother to get yourself a new shirt, it's time to get a new job.

At 190,000 yen, the cheapest of the lot is not just a t-shirt. I'm guessing convenience-store clerks are not going to be the greatest market segment.

Anyone want to photoshop a Japanese store clerk apron of slash immunity graphic?

I can't believe they're worried about knives in the land of katanas.

capoeiristas used silk clothing as a deterrant in knife fights.....higher textile strength....not knife proof but better than cotton.

However, here in America, most of our convenience store robbers have already graduated to guns. We mostly need Glock-resistant t-shirts here in LA.

I believe so... but, it's also expensive, hot, and not the most comfortable thing to wear.

Potstiekam:
"you could just buy a gun"

You are apparently unfamiliar with the 21ft. test. A gun when not already trained on an assailant is a poor defense against a knife. Guns can be good for self-defense in the right circumstances, but are not magical. Not everything is a nail when all you have is a hammer.

Plus, guns are illegal in Japan for common ownership. Getting a gun in Japan is a pretty tortuous procedure and, even then, is subject to a lot of rules an controls.

I had just assumed that Japan was the same as areas in the USA that have strict gun control (in principle) like Chicago or DC. By that I mean you can just buy a handgun on the street corner for about $100.

That being said, I'm with Potstiekam on this one. My convenience store days were served equipped with a GLOCK model 20, 10mm Auto holstered in plain sight. Customers were always very polite.

Even the Yakuza are unwilling to really mess with guns because of the heat it brings. Only the Jakes and Russians in Japan use guns very much.

Japanese people always seem to be overcompensating for any perceived threat that comes up. Convenience store robberies are probably 100 times more common in the United States, but the Japanese are making efforts like this to protect people.

On the upside, the Japanese when they over-react to threats does make for good Fark headlines.
