Dude is such a piece of shiat.

Basically the male version of Hillary Clinton.

Lieberman is the embodiment of that DLC idea that Democrats have to sound like Republicans to win. If they succeed in thwarting the will of the voters by replacing Obama on the ticket with Clinton, I think that idea will get its final rejection, because McCain will kick her ass.

I like it. Of all things that happened on election day 2006, his winning was the best thing I heard.

I am ebbarrased to say I voted for Bush in 2000. Fortunately I live in California, not Florida. It was a mistake i didn't make in 2004.

This. Lieberman may be on the wrong sides of several issues, but you have to admire a politician who actually stands up for what he believes in instead of kowtowing to everyone else.

Oh, and Ned Lamont is a dick. That probably had a lot to do with Lieberman's win.

What he believes in is power -- otherwise he might have had a name for his independent ticket other than "The Connecticut for Lieberman Party." He should just swap parties and become a Republican -- he's in line with their more moderate wing on pretty much every issue.

Necrosis 2008-03-23 09:14:49 PM
Fark Lieberman, he is probably the biggest douche in Congress at this point. At least most other douchebags there are honest about it.

I can't wait for the Dems to pick up another couple seats and drop his ass like an empty beer can.

But do you have to like a politician who is a complete entitled prick who feels he is OWED his senate seat and it is a horrible effront for anyone else to challenge him?

I think Liberman is a piece of shiat personally. I can't wait for the Dems to get a larger majority in the senate and fark him up.

Why so much hate for Lieberman? Is it more than just his positions? Is it because he ran as an independent against the guy his party dumped him for? Or his ardent support for Israel?

Gulper Eel [TotalFark] 2008-03-23 09:21:35 PM
I am amazed that Lieberman hasn't flipflopped on Iraq, after seeing him ditch each and every one of his "moderate" positions to curry favor with Al Gore eight years ago.

Sen. Lieberman was quick, and correct to criticize the left-wing group Moveon.org when it ran an attack newspaper advertisement aimed at Gen. David Petraeus, the commanding general in Iraq. Yet he refused to end his association as an adviser to the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, or even utter a word of criticism, when a spin-off group it created ran a series of misleading TV attack ads aimed at Democratic congressmen, including Connecticut's own representatives, Joe Courtney and Chris Murphy.

Maybe because the MoveOn ad was in a little paper called the New York Times and was ripping the commander of our forces in Iraq, so it got just a wee bit more play than some dime-a-dozen TV attack ad poking at a couple of congressmen?

This is typical tit-for-tat. Courtney and Murphy backed the Democratic ticket in '06, i.e. Lieberman's Democratic opponent Ned Lamont (a/k/a The Messiah Before Obama), even though Lieberman still endorsed Courtney and Murphy. They tried throwing Joe under the bus in '06, now he's returned the favor.

Congratulations, Day editorial board. You've discovered that politics ain't beanbag.

What is there to like about this guy? He is an entitled egomaniac. He doesn't give a shiat about the Democratic party. His political positions are retarded. He acts like a total douchebag at every turn.

Is there a single positive thing about him?

he is Hillary Clinton with a circumsized penis.

Nice try. His party didn't "dump" him, the Democratic electorate of his state did. And "[a]rdent support for Israel?"--what does that mean? Does this imply that there should be unfettered support for another state outside of that nation's policies? Is this a pretext to deem his opponents as anti-semitic? What exactly is implied by your questions?

In addition to all his other lovely qualities, Lieberman is a pro-censorship asshole. That was the first thing that made me hate him, back when he was Al Gore's running mate. I'm pretty sure Lieberman is trying to get himself on McCain's ticket...he'll obviously do anything for power.

RemyDuron 2008-03-23 11:14:51 PM
Why I hate Lieberman is because the whole "Oh, I won't run if I don't win the primary." followed by "Well, when I said I wouldn't run. . ." Lying asshole.

Plus he's pretty much a Republican in Democrat clothing and he's an annoying social conservative.

Mnemia 2008-03-23 11:18:04 PM
RemyDuron: Lying asshole.

Plus his outright lying about his support for the Iraq war prior to the election in 2006. I still can't believe any Democrat fell for that.

Plus he's pretty much a Republican in Democrat clothing and he's an annoying social conservative.

I will never vote for a "social conservative", ever. Under any circumstance I can conceive of. Social conservatism equates to fascist clamping down of individual liberties in the name of fake "morality".

Falcc 2008-03-23 11:18:36 PM
I hate Joe Lieberman becuase of his positions on video games, the Iraq war, the Israel, and generally being a crazy old nutjob.

I liked Ned Lamont becuase his name reminds me of The Shadow and I loved that movie (although I'm not old enough to have heard the radio shows). Frankly the fact that the senator who seemed to agree with the Republicans on everything wouldn't be getting the swing vote was positive news in that campaign. Too bad it didn't work out.

Maybe some Obama coatails will get in soon and we'll be able to start moving to a better place in this country. Alternatively Hillary Clinton could get the nod, a bunch more party before country politicians could move their chairs around and we'll need to start moving to a better country.

No, we hated him before for his betrayal of the Democratic party on foreign policy. Kissy kissy with Bush does not endear him to Dems. He is the opposite of Ron Paul. I like most of Lieberman's positions domestically. He is WAY off on foreign policy. Paul is right on foreign policy and WAY off on domestic issues.

Sabyen91 [TotalFark] 2008-03-23 11:51:38 PM
The endorsement of McCain is well beyond the last straw for Dems (well, maybe not the cowardly Congressional Dems, but the average Dem voter). Can you righties honestly say you wouldn't disown a Republican that endorsed Hillary?

Don't count on it. He has the (considerable) Jewish vote from Cos Cob to Stonington.

Personally, I find a moderate-to-conservative Democrat is refreshing.

Refreshing, really? You are a Republican aren't you? 70% of Congressional Democrats are moderate to conservative.

Bullshiat, he's a shameless liar. He didn't exactly "speak what he believes" about the war in Iraq prior to his re-election in 2006. If he really said what he believes, he'd just come out and say that he'd rather be a Republican if the Dems won't make him one of the most powerful men in America.
