not bad...but the drummer was a little early in one spot.

he 'rushed' it.

overall...i'd give it a B+

it would be awesome to jam with those knuckleheads, however.

"Taylor is a very kind person and is famous in Egypt for his gesture with local boy Youssef Bishara. Youssef was a drummer and his hero was Taylor. Taylor found out that the 16 year old Egyptian drummer was diagnosed with AIDS and got on the first plane to Alexandria. He payed him a visit and Signed his drumset and gave him lots and lots of money. Youssef recovered from AIDS and is still in touch with Taylor."

i'll cut you some slack, sonny.

-good going, lad.

YYZ without Peart is like Oreos without cream. I didn't watch the clip, though, maybe it rocked, I dunno.

Bauer: not bad...but the drummer was a little early in one spot. he 'rushed' it.

Because YYZ has such a simple drum beat...

I was pretty surprised by how many people cheered at that. I wouldn't expect that many Foo Fighters fans to recognize YYZ.

Wookie Milson 2008-03-25 12:29:07 AM
Was there. Dave had promised a surprise in the show - and that was a nice one. Taylor kicks ass and he's been long forgiven for playing in Alanis' band. Very good show. It was my second recent Fooing; saw them open for Bob Dylan at the same venue last year.

How many people in Toronto do you think would have a hard time recognizing Rush? It's their hometown, dude. My grandmother would have known it was Rush.

Tenebreux: Rush sucks. Move on.

And there's the obligatory [Insert band name here] sucks post. My day is complete.

Wow. Two completely milquetoast bands, without an ounce of soul or passion between them, meet onstage. Who woulda thunk it?!?

Third_Uncle_Eno 2008-03-25 01:53:32 AM
Taylor was pretty good.
Something tells me that was preplanned, not impromptu. lolz
but srsly, that was lacking....something....
an average/pedistrian performance, lacking what FuDude categorized as "soul or passion".

/definately doesn't beat the orig. version, or even the other live recorded versions...

Wookie Milson: How many people in Toronto do you think would have a hard time recognizing Rush? It's their hometown, dude. My grandmother would have known it was Rush.

Whoops! I guess I read the headline/video title too quickly, I didn't realize this was in Toronto. That makes much more sense. That makes me wonder what the reaction of this happening would have been in, say, Miami.

Third_Uncle_Eno: Something tells me that was preplanned, not impromptu

No, I'm pretty sure Lee and Lifeson just decided to show up at a Foo Fighters show unannounced with all of their gear, hoping Grohl and his band knew by heart how to play a very technically demanding song. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to think they had discussed and rehearsed the song before they were onstage.

/I couldn't tell if you were being sarcastic or not, so I just assumed the latter. Apologies if it was the former

bingethinker [TotalFark] 2008-03-25 02:22:58 AM
Rush has an album and tour coming up, so this was a smart publicity stunt.

Dude, it's TORONTO. They know "ding da ding ding ding da ding ding ding ding" from birth.

Subby picked the worst filmed one of the clips out there (was that guy actually in TORONTO - zoomed all the way out and still a long ways away) - there's better after the clip is done.

Were you at this show? I was and only heard Mr. Grohl talking about Stompin' Tom Connors, there was no appearance to speak of.

As for the RUSH performance, it was pretty cool to see and the crowd went nuts for it...I think it was hugely popular because of Guitar Hero II, atleast amongst the younger crowd

2 hours 10 minutes of super duper rock show...it might have been a bit slow during a song or two and the crown didn't seem to know all the songs but it was still great to see

Mind you, they aren't as good as TOOL in concert but then again, nobody else is.

You forgive him for playing in Alanis' band? How nice of you. F that. Musicians are out there trying to make a living, and if a display of professionalism and versatility makes no impression on you other than "he's forgiven for playing music", then YOU FAIL MUSIC.

Yes I was being sarcastic, francis, hence the "LOLZ" at the end of that comment:

It's also not that surprising that Foo fans would recognize YYZ because most of them have probably played Guitar Hero II at some point.

"Two completely milquetoast bands, without an ounce of soul or passion between them..."

Yes, because as we all know, if you have great technical proficiency on your instrument, you "lack soul". We know this is true, because all the people who have no technical proficiency keep telling us it's so!

Sour grapes much, FuDude?

This. I've seen many shows, including Rush 3 times, but Tool blew my mind.

i like the foo fighters, and old rush both but i dont know about that drum solo. in front of a crowd in toronto, playing their national anthem, and busting out that drum solo seemed he was biting off alot more than he could chew.

Wow! I'm so excited...my Boobies on Fark. Let me see if I've got all of this correct.

Rush sucks. Move on.

2/10... sorry, you spelled sucks w/o an "X". Bad form.

FuDude

4/10... just for the "milquetoast" reference. Big words really do impress us Rush geeks.

Allright! It DID say "boobies" instead of " quoteBoobies " ! So entirely appropos. I like it here!

I did fark up and forget the This, and a fail pic, but I'm off to the gym in 26 minutes, so...
