I'm going to start marketing a genetic home test kit that will determine whether you're capable of producing intelligent offspring. Everybody who sends me money for one will receive a box that, upon opening, would reveal itself to contain only a slip of paper with the words "you've failed the test" and a brochure listing the nearest clinics at which to obtain a vasectomy or hysterectomy. I think I could get rich AND provide a valuable service to society.

I had a problem shoving dollar bills into the words below your name, so I put my credit card in a slot on the side of my Windows, but I had to fold it twice. I hope that's okay. My wife says a hysterectomy will make me funnier.

/have lived with people with bipolar
/not fun

Typical.

I think that the submitter was trying to contrast a manic state with a depressive state, not showcase dissociative identity disorder (they change the names of mental illnesses every decade for no reason, it seems; is Multiple Personality Disorder still Dissociative Identity Disorder these days?)

However, it seems the submitter put more irritated anger than depression into the depressive state.

If you own it, it's obviously your own. Do you say "I own my own car."?

I think that the whole thing was supposed to be an example of the rapid mood swings that those in the manic state experience. During the manic state one of the typical presentations is a "flight of ideas". The subby was demonstrating that the manic phase can cause the person to switch almost instantly from elation to irrational anger.

And yes, Dissociative Identity Disorder is still the current term

I have a boss that is textbook Bipolar. I have seen him show up at the jobsite pissed off at everybody, fire a guy for basically nothing, wander into his trailer, exit an hour later joking and laughing with everybody. a half hour later he was cutting a chunk of oak with a chainsaw. he was laughing and shreiking like a madman whilst holding the chainsaw at full throttle. you could actually smell the heat coming off of the chainsaw. needless to say the saw was burned out. He takes off out of the driveway, then returns an hour later with a $550 dollar stihl. He hands it to the guy who normally uses the chainsaws and very condescendingly explains that he really needs to take better care of the chainsaws. And then he got drunk.

Bipolar Disorder= Excuse to not be held accountable for the stupid shiat you do

Thank you doctor for your insightful views. I get so tired of ignorant people with uninformed views feeling the need to mouth off(aka 95% of our population). As someone who has a loved one who became bipolar after severe trauma to the frontal lobe, I suggest you pick up a book and educate yourself.
For those out there w/ bipolar, hope you keep plugging at it. I have seen what the right balance of medications can do for a person and the difference is night and day. It took a long time though and a lot of trial and error, but you can get on top of it eventually (several Nobel winners with the condition). Best of luck!

Really? I wasn't even born in 1980, but I don't recall seeing any references to DID until about the mid-nineties. But then again, the medical textbooks I'd skim when I was little and bored were from my great-aunt's education in nursing, which either pre-dated 1980 or was at about the same time.

Was the change in name for a valid reason (like a more accurate scientific description of the condition), or a silly one (like political correctness)?
