Good idea, but way too expensive.

Just another piece of the isolated internet age, I'm so like, duhnimpressed, what's happening on "Lost" this week?

Actually, despite the "weird" tag, I think this is a good idea.

A Webcam these days,..I'm not surprised. But, did you know that there used to be a funeral home in Atlanta which displayed the dearly departed in their coffin in a window and those paying their respects could drive through and do their "viewing" from the comfort of their family car without having to go inside the building.

Wait, how did this get invented before the drive-thru funeral parlour I've been waiting all my life for?

Take that, Mr. Bah-the-interwebs-will-never-take-off!

I remember when someone supposedly put a camera inside a coffin and was streaming on the internet. Turns out it was fake. The guy never decomposed. That is something that I would like to see though even if it is pretty disgusting.

We went the tacky route and got married in Vegas over the internet. Everyone that couldn't make the trip went to our apartment and watched it live on our plasma screen. Worked out great, it was a lot of fun. Somehow I don't think this would be as fun.

marcpen: Good idea, but way too expensive.

If they had viewers web cams on big screens so the rest of the attendees could see them, I'd pay just to attend random funerals with my junk right in the camera.

/not really.

They had drive-thru funeral parlors in the '80's. Jus' sayin' is all.

I WOULD NOT want video of my Father's funeral. I HAD THE BEST FATHER IN THE WORLD, HE WAS BRIALLANT, FUNNY, CHARMING AND TALENTED, BUT I WANT TO REMEMBER HIM AS HE WAS ALIVE, NOT WATCHING THE FIRST SHOVEL FULL OF SOIL HIT HIS COFFIN!

This is nothing new... Internet funerals have been around for quite a while now.

Well, there WAS one in Florida. (new window)

I think there's also one in Chicago, but I'm having trouble finding info.

A webcam buried with the deceased, THAT would be news.

/would watch it

I wasn't going to RTFA, but had to with the comments about the camera in the coffin. Then I see this isn't even a service those money grubbing funeral homes provide - it's farking expensive.

Services are already being streamed on to the web from the first eight participating crematoriums in the UK, with remote mourners paying £75.

75 pounds? That's $150 US. To watch a funeral on a webcam? Not even for my dear mother, bless her heart.

Funerals, like pr0n, should always be free on the intarwebs.

i see it as a good idea only if you are on the other side of the world and can't make it. if you knew the person and their family well enough i think you should actually go. just my 2 cents though.

Already done on My Name Is Earl.

Doug_Piranha: Already done on My Name Is Earl.

Finally someone else mentioned that!

I don't think it's a bad idea - there are going to be times where you simply cannot get there. Sure, it's not going to be the same, but better than nothing.

However, 75 quid strikes me a kind of expensive.

How about a webcam autopsy. That'd be cool.
