For anyone who's curious, this is from an episode of "Crossroads", and can be seen in reruns on MHD (and theoretically CMT, but not nearly as often). It was a fantastic show; they also played When the Levee Breaks and The Boy Who Wouldn't Hoe Corn (an AKUS song).

When I first heard about the plans for the album, I thought it would be a trainwreck, but I was so wrong. I can't wait to see them in June.

Wookie Milson 2008-03-23 08:33:46 AM
Awesome. When the Levee Breaks was even better. I'm really hoping that they add some Canadian dates to the tour.

Allison...that glance of hers is pretty intense.

Good stuff though.

They did a version of Killing the Blues which is simply beautiful.

Enjoyed the instrumentals. The vocals sucked, though. Both the tune and the actual singing. Never heard of Krauss, but I gather she's a slut, so she's forgiven.

I thought that was great. I am going to check out the record immediately.

Get rid of Krauss, add Page and Jones. Then they'll have something.

Raising Sands is a great disc. This is a great take on the song, I wish they'd put it on the album.

Agreed. Then again, I hate Country music, and this was way, way too country for my taste.

Yeah, know what you mean. Marc Ribot's guitar solo was so totally country. Heck, I'm still picking the hay out of my ears...

This, too. That T-Bone Burnett dude, what a clueless hack. Why anyone would want to work with a talentless hack like him is beyond me.

For Plant's sake, I hope he's boning Krauss. Then at least something worthwhile is coming from this colossal waste of time.

Robo73 [TotalFark] 2008-03-23 12:39:19 PM
fark Robert Plant for not touring with Zeppelin. Seriously, we are all missing out on this one.

People with such refined musical tastes who think they know what is "a collossal waste of time" miss out on so much wonderful music.

Martstar 2008-03-23 12:52:30 PM
This was pretty good and all, but I'd really like to hear Krauss on some of the Zep material that's already on the mellow side, like "Rain Song," "Down by the Seaside," "Going to California," etc.

DrBenway [TotalFark] 2008-03-23 12:59:50 PM
All sarcasm aside, here's a lengthy interview with Plant, Krauss and Burnett on the Charlie Rose Show.

Note to short-attention-span Farkers (was that redundant?): Don't say I didn't warn you, it's almost 30 minutes long.

Don't think so, though perhaps he's ironing her blouses.

Alison Krauss can sing a song you're probably really sick of and make it sound fantastic.

Kanye West has 9 Grammy's. Are you still sure that's a worthwhile metric?

After reading the comments here, I can safely say that the majority of you wouldn't know great music if it walked up to you, hit you in the face with the blunt end of a Les Paul, and shoved you head-first into a bass drum.

Between the performance clips and the interviews I've seen them do, they both seem to be genuinely enjoying the hell out of this deal -- it's new territory for both of them. Hearing them so relaxed talking about their collaboration and about working together with T-Bone (someone I've admired for a good 25 years or more) has been a treat. While I can get hardcore Zeppelin fans being disappointed that a tour doesn't seem to be happening at this point, I don't see how you can call yourself a real fan of the band and not appreciate and respect how invigorating this experience clearly is for Robert Plant.

Well, what do you expect from a Fark User who chose 'Hetfield' as his handle?

Love Raising Sand...A most unexpected pleasure. of course, Alison Kraus singing anything is pure win.

I think they are making more than songs...They exchange glances like a couple of high school kids.

their album is beautiful, and a really interesting take on American roots music. i'd love to see them live

I just recently started watching MHD. That channel is awesome! Sadly, I don't have an HDTV, but some of the stuff on there is just great. Plus, a music channel that doesn't have any 'reality' or 'celebrity' B.S. gets a +5 in my book.

This was so full of win I am crying. Anyone who says differently doesn't know anything genuine about music.

If not, something very close to that. I know that T-Bone is leading it, but I haven't found anything with the full line-up -- will try to sniff around and find out more. They're playing here in Asheville in June, so I've got to score tickets for that. Wasn't on top of it and they're already sold out, damn it. Hope I don't get reamed too bad...

Ravager 2008-03-24 04:00:34 PM
That sucked. Plain and simple. They look awkward together too.

doxonrox99 2008-03-24 06:45:28 PM
I thought she would be a natural to sing the Battle of Evermore with him, but they haven't done it to my knowledge. Maybe on the tour this summer...

I find MHD hit and miss. There's not a lot of content (so shows repeat a LOT), and most of the stuff they have is filler (a 2005 Duran Duran performance in HD, anyone?), but their good stuff is REALLY awesome. Storytellers with Pearl Jam, a live set with the Mars Volta, Soundstage with KT Tunstall, Crossroads with Plant and Krauss, etc...

Just curious, how do you get MHD without an HDTV? Does your cable box downscale HD content? Because that would be pretty awesome.

Wow, great link. Krauss never fails to amaze. The album with Plant is definitely worth a listen. It's such an unexpected collaboration but it works.
