I've seen other clips from that show before. Not really a VU gig per se, but apparently Lou and John Cale had kissed and made up to the extent that could play together on this gig in Spain. Don't know the whole story... anybody? Lou looks pretty strung out to me (those are some seriously droopy eyelids, even by Lou Reed standards), and Nico generally doesn't do anything. Though that is a wonderful performance of Femme Fatale, with Nico looking and sounding quite beautiful.

Like I said, I've watched a few of these clips before, but I don't remember the sound quality being so good. Thanks for pointing me back at them again, NDP2.

So the song is based on a book about sexual domination and bondage, which I saw performed as a play in Buenos Aires last year. So much nudity! And it turned out that the woman spreading her legs on stage was very famous and well respected film actress in Argentina, with an imdb page and awards and everything. They played this song at the end, and I finally realized what the song was about.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that the theatre is very different outside of the U.S.
