I don't understand all this hero worship of vets. I mean, I like pets as much as the next person, but seriously chill out they're just animals

Now if only we'd get these jackasses that steal copper wire for money. Happens everywhere.

They actually stole an air-conditioner from a special-needs school here in the KC area just for the farking copper wire! Just unbolted the whole thing in the middle of the night. I don't know if they ever got caught. farking bastards.

That's because Darwin usually gets them first. Too bad that your guys knew what a disconnect looked like.

So here we have...

1. Steal markers
2. Sell markers
3. ???
4. Profit Arrest

This is unAmerican! I demand answers!

There is a long and mind philosophical and economics discussion, here, that I will not encourage but it amuses me that my father... who was sent off this mortal coil with full military honours and a 21 gun salute, might not be on the side that you may expect.

Not just the wire. There's several pounds of copper tubing (a high-efficiency central AC can have a 100+ pound condenser coil, but they're hard to just walk off with) in an AC unit too, depending on the model. Right now copper goes for a few bucks a pound, so they might've gotten fifty or sixty whole dollars if the one they stole had a copper evaporator and condenser!

Assholes. And you people wonder why I'm such a fan of beating people with hoses.

Um, yeah, I forgot there's copper everything else in there. I don't know what's all in those things. Thanx. I'm just uber pissed off that they stole it from a SPECIAL-NEEDS SCHOOL!

If they ever do get caught, I promise you, if you hear about a hosebeating, you'll know it's me! Just for you!

You mean he's on the "top" side of the soil?

Hosebeatings 2008-03-22 10:24:50 PM
Absolutely. It doesn't make their behavior acceptable, but it explains why they'd go for an AC rather than, say, a bunch of xmas lights (a good string of xmas lights probably has more copper wire than some of your central AC units).

That they would rip off the retarded kids for fifty bucks or so (tops, since a lot of your window units are going with aluminum condensers and evaporators these days) just pisses me right off too.

I think we've found our new low for the weekend.

Nothing new about that here in NC. They been nicking the markers from graves for the past few years and the scrap metal dealers here are corrupt little SOBs that will take them without question. You also have to be careful not to leave your car on the side of the road to go for help because when you come back it be cut into scrap.

Yeah some punks pulled that here too. It was a church\private school. Over the course of three days, they took three AC units the first night, two the second and the last one on a Saturday. no one noticed until Sunday. They still don't know who did it.

They take the scrap into Oregon where they can get paid on the spot. Here in Washington, the law is you wait ten days and are mailed a check for the amount. Tweakers can't wait that long.

They've started on the grave marker thing too.

Can't they just go after the weasel recycling dealers? I thought there were laws that covered recieving stolen goods?

As for TFA, I wonder when the next group of soldiers is scheduled to arrive home from Iraq? I'm sure they'd enjoy a half hour or so alone with these fine citzens to 'discuss' the matter.

My father was laid to rest at the National Cemetary here in Phoenix just 2 weeks ago(He was Navy). My grandfather was laid to rest there as well(he was a leatherneck) 10 years ago. I am sure my mother and grandmother will be put there also. Reading this makes me angry, and you wouldn't like me when I am angry Mr. McGee.

He's in an urn, creamted and the urn is buried.

As punishment he should have to have those grave markers inserted into his anus.

That's great but what about the places buying bits of bridges from meth-head metal scrappers?!

I've seen the stuff these parasites are hauling around in their Redd Sanford pickup trucks...

We had a guy try to steal a chunk of funnel residue from the foundry I used to work for. To get the aluminum from the remelt into the pot attached to each casting unit, someone has to run a big ladle across the place on a track system, then pour it into the pot. To get from the ladle to the pot usually involves a funnel, which is basically a half pipe section. Over the course of a shift or two, you get some pretty good buildup on your funnel, which translates to a chunk of pure 380 or 390 aluminum alloy about 6 feet long. It gets cool enough to handle within a half hour or so. This guy figured they were just going to stuff it into a remelt anyway, so he loaded it onto his truck when nobody was looking.

Then in his haste to make a quick getaway, he pulled a corner in the parking lot a tad too quickly and it went flying off the back of the truck. Terminated and arrested on the spot. In all likelihood, he would've gotten busted when he tried to recycle it anyway -- these chunks of metal are as pure as you can really get, and they're obviously industrial.

We also had guys steal ingots (complete with stamps saying what alloy it was) and our temporary ingots (cleaning out a pot and dumping the aluminum into a mold because we had a full remelt) too. Again, obviously industrial rather than household.

actually, this sort of thing is one of the reason Iraqs infrastructure is so crap, they pull down power lines as fast as they are strung up, thats why just about everyone has a generator instead of getting power from the grid, you might have to wait 6 hours in line to get it but a gallon of gas is still somthing like 10 cents in Baghdad. Scavengers and petty criminals have done more damage to Iraq than we have.
