I love it!

I grew up in the country where people would move into the area and build huge houses...then they'd want the grocery next door so they didn't have to drive to the country...douche bag homeowners

got what they deserved

clancifer [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 01:33:35 PM
That is awesome.

noYOUare [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 01:40:52 PM
Beautiful.

JoJoTheIdiotMonkeyBoy [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 02:27:27 PM
Good. Fark 'em.

"They have no proof that a resident cut those trees. It could have been drunken idiots from somewhere else.

My ass. "Drunken Idiots from somewhere else" have no reason to remove your specific stand of trees, you stupid broad. You paid someone to do it, and that's how it happened.

"If they're treating us like children, surely we're too immature to keep paying our rates.'

Brilliant idea. Break some more laws while you're at it.

I would like to see every one of these town councilmen elected to national office.

Spanky_McFarksalot 2008-03-22 03:17:03 PM
That council is retarded.

Katie98_KT 2008-03-22 03:19:32 PM
I approve of this response.

The city council should be impeached

SpinStopper [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 03:48:21 PM
Local Don Everett claims the council has gone power-crazy. ``We don't like being guilty until proven innocent. This is Australia, not Russia or China,' he said.

Yeah. It's not like the country was settled by criminals or anything ;)

nobozo 2008-03-22 04:11:25 PM
Granted, that $10,000 would have bought plenty of good size nice new replacement trees.

/ but I still love the message sent

nobozo: Granted, that $10,000 would have bought plenty of good size nice new replacement trees.

Which "some drunken outsiders" would no doubt have cut down again.

ZAZ [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 05:08:56 PM
This is funny, but it would also be funny if somebody brought a truck and shoved the containers off the edge of the cliff.

Control_this [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 05:19:36 PM
"They have no proof that a resident cut those trees. It could have been drunken idiots from somewhere else."

One thing for certain. There will be drunken idiots from elsewhere showing up to burn and deface those containers.

true - true

I LOL'ed

therumblefish 2008-03-22 05:48:46 PM
I would love to spend about 80 bucks on aerosol spray paint and do some graffiti on the side of the containers that looked like the original trees.

BigSnatch [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 05:49:01 PM
There's definitely at least one farker on that city council.

t3knomanser 2008-03-22 05:50:17 PM
ZAZ: This is funny, but it would also be funny if somebody brought a truck and shoved the containers off the edge of the cliff.

And seeing as this is Australia, they're crazy enough to do that.

FTA: "These massive containers are sitting on sand. If we get a lot of rain, they could shift, and children are climbing on them. Someone will get hurt,' he said.

Then tell your kids not to climb on precariously stacked shipping containers, dumbass!

This is one of the many situations in life that can be resolved with high explosives.

I'm a "drunken outsider" so I'm getting a kick out of these responses...

/Good for the council.

Approves.

Speaker2Animals 2008-03-22 05:54:32 PM
I'm with the council. But I'd like to read a little more background.

JoJoTheIdiotMonkeyBoy: Brilliant idea. Break some more laws while you're at it.

I hope they do that, and lose everything.

richie65 2008-03-22 05:56:10 PM
Who would provide a city counsel with the ability to be this vindictive. Sounds like the residents need to look into this as a misappropriation of funds.

If the trees were removed illegally, the city counsel has its' recourse. If they have mishandled the cities monies, they need to be held accountable.

Scott77 2008-03-22 05:56:25 PM
Council wins.

People too often think (correctly) that they can do whatever they please because nobody will stop them. Not this time.

"The containers are there to protect the trees we are going to plant" is just as plausible as "It was drunken outsiders who cut down the trees."

I see no problem

twfeline 2008-03-22 05:58:30 PM
FTA: "It could have been drunken idiots from somewhere else."

Of COURSE it was! How stupid of the Council not to have seen that! Drunks REGULARLY go around improving the views of homeowners.

/Leave the containers there until the trees are the same height.

dwalder 2008-03-22 05:58:41 PM
And your city council hopes you'll delight in this new windbreak, asshats!

Now they'll plant trees to block out the containers...
Or ask for THIS (new window)

alienchickenpie 2008-03-22 05:59:36 PM
They should plant false trees filled with explosives next time.

By the way, this is not a "punishment"... these folks were never entitled to the views they think they were; views are NOT A PROPERTY RIGHT, ANYWHERE. I know, they're asshole self-entitled homeowner douchebags (obviously not all homeowners... heck, not even a majority of homeowners, are like this), so they think they deserve everything.

Well, suck it. That land is not yours.

semiotix 2008-03-22 06:00:52 PM
I love it. Normal governments doing normal things to normal people sends the average Farker running to mimeograph his personal manifesto--but when you get a government OF assholes acting LIKE assholes TOWARDS their asshole constituents, it's the greatest thing ever.

Actually, that part I agree with. I was on the fence until the inevitable "won't someone think of the children!" moment.

farbiez 2008-03-22 06:02:32 PM
This is great! Here in my town there are a group of homes valued at about 3 million a piece located on the side of a mountain. Before this development was approved, the builder and the buyers agreed upon each and every tree that could not be touched so as to not ruin the view for the rest of the residents living in the valley below. After moving in, this one owner decided that the fine was surely worth the better view and poisoned the trees in his back yard. He smiles, pays the fine (which is a drop in the bucket for him), has to plant replacement trees and in 20 years, maybe they'll be half the size of the ones he killed. If he had to look at a dumpster-like contraption in his back yard for the next several years, perhaps he would have thought twice.

I'm on the fence here. Yes, cutting down the trees was asshattery. But the council spending 10K to say nyah nyah, also pretty childish.

I doubt the reason they want the trees to begin with is NOT to spoil the view. This is all the shipping crates are doing.

semiotix: but when you get a government OF assholes acting LIKE assholes TOWARDS their asshole constituents, it's the greatest thing ever.

Turnabout is fair play.

The Power Nap 2008-03-22 06:03:12 PM
Seeing as the tree grove most likely had been planted to prevent the rain from eating away the cliffside, I'm siding with the council on this one. I'm just as anti-athouritarian as the next socialy deficient tard on this site, but landslides are NOT fun.

I would also set the containers on fire, after I filled them full of tires and used brake pads. Giant ball of black tar-y smoke FTW/L!

Dhusk 2008-03-22 06:03:54 PM

paygun 2008-03-22 06:06:08 PM
Too bad they were empty. If they were thinking they would have filled them with pig shiat first.

xebeche_tzu 2008-03-22 06:06:22 PM
Thanks for the free $5k shipping containers, farkwits. They'll be on my uncle's land, where you'll never see them again.

Please, bring more.

twfeline 2008-03-22 06:06:35 PM
Maybe those same "drunken idiots" should paint this on the containers.

farbiez: After moving in, this one owner decided that the fine was surely worth the better view and poisoned the trees in his back yard.

People who do this should lose their home, or at least be forced to pay for the replacement of every tree, using either a tree of the exact estimated size, or something larger. That includes all transport and installation.

strathmeyer 2008-03-22 06:07:13 PM
If only there was some sort of cliff nearby that the residents could push the containers off of?

Get Lost 2008-03-22 06:07:58 PM
Perfect. Now these douchebags can be brought up to believe in the mighty tree.

mailroomjack: I grew up in the country where people would move into the area and build huge houses...then they'd want the grocery next door so they didn't have to drive to the country...douche bag homeowners

I grew up in the country where the lawyers and rich folks moved, then biatched because they could smell cow poo in the air. Them cows was how we made our living, and we (and they) were there first. But every year some newly rich asshat would file a complaint with the county. And the county would tell them that this was an agricultural area and that's what you get.

Someone even complained about the sound of combines and grain trucks on year. Douch bags indeed.

Nice to know the locals have some sense of geography.
Anyway THIS is what you'd get in CHINA. That dude is also the "crane" when he stands on one foot.
www.pbase.com
Well, that and a prison sentence...sorry, "kids"!

The locals should offer to have a mural painted on the containers that they can enjoy.
