I'm happy to see Mythbusters put a bullet in the gun at the end. Very thorough, perhaps I'll watch that show every now and again.

That segment was not all that relevant to the story. They just put shells in the oven. I assume a chambered round in a gun pointed at the oven door would have a very different effect.

They did it with a loaded gun at the end. They show that a bullet fired from a gun is deadly (in case anyone needed to know that).

Is Back of the Yards the town name?

Hmmm...this story is similar to another recent oven-related mishap...

Perhaps ovens need to start coming with warning labels. "WARNING! NOT FOR STORAGE OF EXPLOSIVES OR AMMUNITION"

Yeah. I managed to preheat an oven with a farking CD player in it.

Long story.

If he's reading this, husband will recognize the story. It was his player.

It is a neighborhood on the south-side of Chicago. Named for those infamous stockyards.

Nib: How did she not see a farking gun in the oven is what I'm wondering.

Probably preheating the oven. I've left pans in a heated oven because I didn't check before turning it on. I'm lucky my pots and pans aren't loaded firearms.

How to keep your pistol out of the hands of children.
1. Buy a big bottle of castor oil and a breadbox.
2. Give children a good dose each day for a week or two.
3. Place castor oil bottle in a bread box when children are present.
4. Pretend to forget where you placed castor oil bottle.
5. If castor oil bottle is still in breadbox two weeks later, hide your pistol in breadbox.
6. Periodically ask children to remind you to buy another bottle.

We had a tiny kitchen with very little storage, so we used to keep cookware in our oven.
After we pre-heated it to 350º a few times, we started putting the oven knob in there with it.

/plenty of loaded guns here
//but none of them are in the oven

This is why I say gun control is important: we must keep those out of the hands of the idiots.

I'm looking at you, entire state of Florida!

In Madison Wisconsin, they make you police chief if you do that.

MADISON: The police chief forgot he had a gun in the oven. Then he decided to roast some turkey.

"Shortly thereafter he heard a boom" police spokeswoman Jeana Kerr said on Wednesday.

The outcome for amateur chef and full-time Madison police chief Richard Williams was a voluntary one-day, unpaid suspension for violating his department's firearms policy.

Williams said the oven is one of the odd hiding places at home where he puts his service revolver to reduce the risk of a burglar taking it. On Sunday, he forgot he placed it in the oven the day before. After putting some turkey in the oven to roast at 350 degrees, he laid down while waiting for it to cook. That's when the gun went off, firing a round through the gas stove and into a hallway banister."

What makes you say that?

Id like to see one done with all cylinders of the revolver soked with bullets.

It was already illegal for a convicted felon to have a gun.

GUN LAWS TO KEEP GUNS OUT OF THE HANDS OF HONEST MEN. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Oh you people from non-urban areas, so funny.

Hmmm, we don't have any town names like Next to the Sticks or Behind the Dumps, so it threw me off

Well, it does rhyme with "bun" in the oven, although rhyme is generally a poor if not ill-conceived way to make decisions.

That sister is a dumb biatch. I always open the oven to make sure some worthless fark didnt put some tupperware or a cookie sheet in there because they dont know where it goes and they want to help tidy up the counters.

I wonder why he was keeping guns in the oven? I know the gun laws there are strict (and will hopefully go when the Heller case is decided), but this is ridiculous!
