I work for an auction house on a part time basis and plenty of people purchase art, silver and jewelry on 'bay. Had one person came in trying to consign some silver she purchased on line...it wasn't what she thought it was.

Picasso actually produced thousands of art objects a year (he could make a shiatload of ceramic plates a day, for example). In one story I read, an art dealer who bought a painting off of Pablo was accused of having a forgery. So the dealer took the painting back to Picasso for some assistance. Picasso took one look and said, "It's a forgery." the dealer pleaded that he watch Picasso sign the painting himself. Picasso replied, "I was forging my own work."* Moral of the story: not every painting he did was a da Vinci. Also, Picassos come cheap. Buyer beware.
