"Rock Star"?

/I heard "Rock Band" was better

Stompn_Tom [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 05:02:26 AM
Awesome.

Rock Band / Guitar Hero will wind up making more money for bands than CD sales will...this will be the forth time I will purchase this album (LP, cassette, CD and now Rock Band)

Let Me Take You Home Tonight is missing...hmmmmm

I wonder if you will be able to set up a playlist of this entire album since Foreplay/Long Time is already available.

Stompn_Tom [TotalFark] 2008-03-22 05:05:12 AM
Each song can be purchased individually for $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points) or all 6 can be purchased as a pack for $9.99 (800 Microsoft Points). They will be available next week through the Xbox Live! Marketplace, and through Sony's PlayStation Store.

I just came here to find the obligatory "why don't you learn to play a real guitar" vs "if I wanted to play a real guitar, I'd have bought a real guitar" thread raging. I guess it's just too early on a Saturday morning.

It is my sincere desire to never hear a song by Boston again for the rest of my life. Please. Stop playing them already.

Sweet. Crank the amps, and fire up the grill.

Yes, please let Boston die. The music sucked when it was new. Due to even suck more now.

*looks at clock*

What is this "too early" garbage of which you speak? Why, I've been up for an hour already...

But enough about my morning.. let's address your concern...

I have Guitar Hero 2, Guitar Hero 3, an electric guitar AND an acoustic guitar PLUS El Roommate™ owns Rock Band... and I play all of them so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

i have boston installed on my drumscape machine.

rock and roll band

foreplay/longtime

cool the engines

-you have to actually know how to play the drums, though.

i will have at least one person a week come up to me and ask..."how do you know when to hit the 'pads'.

funny stuff from the american public.

BummedOutMonkey 2008-03-22 10:27:36 AM
Awesome. I love Boston. I love Rock Band. I love my real guitars too. Some songs are more fun to play in Rock Band than on real guitar with a band.

People give "real guitar" a bit too much credit - many great songs are boring to play for real. I've played about 100 gigs - I think I'd rather get a colonoscopy than play "When I Come Around" in front of a crowd again.

Phil Moskowitz 2008-03-22 10:35:16 AM
Great, now I have that bloody song stuck in my head. Time to download some Captain and Tennille.

This.

Having done the cover band and real band thing for years, I'd rather play the covers with the teevee and play my stuff with my real guitar.

This is by far the best DLC Rockband has ever offered. I'm actually more excited for this than "Who's Next". Now if they would offer Quadrophenia (or at least a couple selected tracks), that'd be another story...trying to 5-star "Love Reign O'er Me" would be such hellish fun.

And for you Boston haters, fark off. Great band, great melodies, great harmonies, great all around.

While I don't play video games, I got hooked on Boston when a lab partner for a comp. sci. class refused to play anything else every time our group met (which I hated at first). Boston rocks; and I don't even listen to or like rock, I despise classic rock, and yet I can't help but like Boston. I'm glad they are getting some recognition.

I'm still trying to discern if they are being facetious about a German surrender signaling the end of WWII.

Damn it. Every week I get pumped for the new DLC, and every week I'm disappointed. So far, there are only half a dozen that I've picked up just because I don't like any of the stuff they've been spitting out so far. Its not that I think its bad music, its just stuff I don't like.

ITT a bunch of wannabe hipsters slam a band solely because the band is popular. Plus a few insecure guitarists who hate the fact that there's a guitar video game that provides instant gratification, when they had to practice like crazy for years to crank out a recognizable version of "Louie Louie."

I don't see how guitarists can be so insecure about a game. I've played for about 5 years now, I can play every one of those Boston songs and yet I'll buy this pack the instant it comes out.

There's quite a difference between the two and they shouldn't be compared. True there's the instant gratification, as you've said, but a real guitarist knows and feels a lot more to the song. Besides, there's no heart or soul in playing a video game that is, in essence, a adult version of a jack-in-the-box. Hell, with a jack-in-the-box you can at least control tempo, with guitar hero/rock band you're just deciding whether or not the game will play you a certain note. You can't bend the hell out of them, you can't hold notes longer or clip other ones because you're feeling it, and you can't just start improvising over somebody else's music.

Still really enjoy playing Rockband. It's fun drumming--as I don't have any actual drums and I'm not a drummer. It's fun having a "band" that will play what I want, when I want and do it flawlessly. It's also fun having a machine tell me how it thinks I'm singing--as after you listen to yourself long enough, it's hard to make a fair judgement. It's a game and it does what it's supposed to do, it lets you pretend. And Tuesday, I'm going to be pretending I'm farking Brad Delp fronting one of the rockingest American bands of all time.

If the Wii is good enough for Guitar Hero, there's no reason why it shouldn't be good enough for Rock Band as well.

Its outselling because lots and lots of parents buy it for little Johnny because it's different, often has more kid friendly games, is the cheapest, and everyone else keeps telling them to buy it. On top of that, you have people like my mother who wants one because "that bowling and tennis game sure was neat!" when they saw it at a friends house.

IMO any system that has appeal to 50 year old women isn't what I would consider a serious system for gamers. It has more mass market appeal than the other two, but lacks in the more "hardcore gamer" aspect.

/elitest? Maybe

I agree with Rock Band on Wii.

Absolutely ridiculous for them not releasing it with the release on the other systems..

on second thought, maybe not... I mean, they screwed up GH3 for the Wii pretty badly. Got my new Gh3 disc in the mail and it sounds much better! Now i need DLC on my Wii, and rock band (with GH3 controller support, please )

vespertinehalo 2008-03-22 10:19:39 PM
1. They have said that Wii Rock Band is coming out so we will have to be patient.

2. They already tried to get Activision to have GH3 guitar compatibility with Rock Band, but they didn't allow it. Probably because Harmonix ditched Activision and went on to make Rock Band. But the new RB guitars are out a la carte on April 2nd.

3. Metallica already said they are gonna be putting an entire album for download. Unfortunately I think it is their newest unreleased album.

4. They need more song packs like the one last week (Earache[the record label] Pack 1).

5. They need to release deluxe instruments. I have already broken two of them(drums and guitar).

GH3 guitar works fine with RB. I never use the Strat for Rock Band, always use the Les Paul. Its the other way round. Which isnt that big of a deal, but it is kinda stupid.
