US Attorney General... claims that the terrorists are everywhere including under your bed, in the bushes, and jumping from the refrigerator

If he'd said "ninjas" instead of "terrorists," he'd be right.

Why would he lie to us?
Oh, yeah. To keep a talon-like grip on it's people.

So the same people who tell me the government can't do anything right want me to give the government more of my liberties. How about no.

This AG is the King of Wishy-Washy. He's an accomplished care-taker who doesn't really want to take aside on shiat. At least until he thinks everyone has stopped paying attention.

Fortunately he can see all six sides of a two-sided issue.

Asked about the latest taped comments from al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Mukasey shook his head. "Am I alarmed? I'm alarmed, I guess. I wish he weren't in a position to issue them."

But then who would be our boogeyman?

Just once, I'd like to hear one of these guys say "this is so serious that we've worked with our intelligence agencies to figure out a way to tell you all about it - and here it is, evidence and all".

Instead they always ask us to just take their word for it, and seem stunned that after 7 years of undermining the credibility of their offices and telling us to stfu about it, we don't believe them.

I am shocked, and throughly disgusted Tabatha Static.
That monster listing is just completely, utterly wrong.
First off, Godzilla shouldn't be the lowest threat, Gamera is about as benign as a puppy, and mothra should be the second lowest.
AND WHY MEGALON? HMM? WHY MEGALON? The bionic cockroach sometimes just defeats itself. You know your farked when Monster X / Ghidra is around . . . just say goodbye to your city.
Everything is wrong with that posting . . . EVERYTHING!

/goes back under his rock

AND GAMERA SUCKS!

mukasey is going to start laying this shiat on with a trowel now.

as a friend and backer of wrong-horse guiliani, he's got to show mccain (pretty damned quickly) that he'll suck the balls right up and out of any gop cock if it's big enough.

he's going to work the tongue to the taint now, because it'll allow him to use his current position as leverage for his and guiliani's future careers if mccain becomes president

Frankly, I was stunned to see that in the midst of his comments about the threat of terrorism, he would be promoting the Protect America Act. This was completely unexpected.

And by "completely unexpected," I mean "a surprise to absolutely no one but those with the neurological activity of pavement."

It's one that gets made frequently around here by those of us who knew better than to buy into the hysteria over terrorism. It usually includes some snarky comment afterward as well. Personally? I like "Man up, Nancy".

varmitydog 2008-03-22 08:37:39 AM
Yet another cowardly and incompetent Bush appointee. It doesn't take any of them very long to show their true colors, does it?

A far better president than the current dweeb once said "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself". That's very much true, I am more fearful of the last 300 days of this crew of anti-American losers than I have ever been of any terrorist.

And then I will be fearing what these anti-American jokers are going to do to hamstring and hurt the new president. If they had moved to impeach, there is a good chance that we might could have missed all that. Now, it's almost a certainty.

I thought we were safer since we invaded Iraq and forced a regime change.

chipspastic 2008-03-22 09:17:25 AM
It's simple. Bush & Cheney convinced the AG (just like the old one) that it is necessary to lie about the scope of the terrorist threat.

No terrorist threat means no more war. No more war means fewer lucrative contracts for corrupt companies like Halliburton and Blackwater. No lucrative contracts means these companies have no reason to keep quiet about the ways Bush & Cheney broke the law to give them those contracts (like making up reasons to go to war and forcing the phone companies to eavesdrop on innocent citizens).

The only way Bush & Cheney remain safely in the White House is by continuing this war.

Actually, they don't even have to make up threats. He doesn't list a single threat. He's just screaming "ZOMG, we are all gonna die, give me more power". If we got to hear about made up threats at least it would be interesting.

Don't forget prostitution is terrorism also, the Patriot Act brought down Gov. Spitzer. Downloading music off the internet is terrorism also according to the RIAA. 20 years from now, I wonder if we will have a Constitution and a nation anymore, or be a part of the North American Alliance with Mexico & Canada.

7.1 billion a month fighting the wars, playing in a sandbox 1/2 a world away. That is what this fear mongering is costing us in dollars.

The Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States. Is it too much to ask to have one that's not completely corrupt?

I wonder how much longer it'll be until the fed starts cracking down on citizens? they'll have to start restricting movement because of 'teh terrorists'. regulate the internet because of 'teh terrorists'. monitor news and political discussion because of 'teh terrorists'.

I think they could actually start doing it.

"I'm surprised by how surprised I am"

But is he surprised by how surprised that surprising surprise made him? Because that, surprisingly, is the important surprise question.

Surprise.

They've already started. The Real ID" act is one example. And all but three states have accepted it. Two of those have accepted an extension to think about it, and Montana has refused an extension.
It's the "death of a thousand cuts" scenario, and each cut will get the "Oh, stop making such a fuss, it's not a big thing" reaction from the morans who can't see past their noses.
And that's not going to change under the Dems.
