Heh.

He could have switched out years ago with someone else and no one would have known. I hear Dr. Roxo is looking for new job.

For those who are interested you can hear an hour's worth of Paul Stanley stage banter by downloading this file (new window).:

Sounds like he's looking to franchise.

He's always been the best performer in the band by a long shot. I don't see how it could continue without him.

That said, he should have quit 10 years ago. Kiss was always kind of a joke...now they're an OLD joke.

KISS jumped the shark when they took off the makeup.

slyde 2008-03-21 06:08:58 PM
KISS will never die, or go away.

That's what the make-up was for in the first place.

Menudo

i was in 7th grade whe they first hit big with all the kiss mania and no one knew who they were

my friends and i tried and tried to figure out why they wore the make up and finally we all agreed on the only logical conclusion

....they were Mexicans

Green Bastard 2008-03-21 06:47:20 PM
There are already KISS albums completley done by studio musicians. Why not hire someone to play the Starchild on stage?
AND it's just KISS for crust's sake. It's not like its art or anything.

xdedd 2008-03-21 07:16:49 PM
I had a KISS lunchbox growing up. I wish I still had it.

I finally got to see them play at the LA Forum for their first reunion tour in full makeup. It was an awesome show. Ace is still my favorite among them and was clearly a fan favorite that night. A lot of people were dressed up as Ace and the fans were constantly screaming out his name and cheering loudly after his solos.

There's no point in seeing a KISS show without Ace.

For a rock group, I have no farking idea what song(s) they are famous for.

It's an American thing, right? Like carnies.

Yeah GungFu...it's an "American thing"

Obviously, you have never been to Hong Kong.
Save those pennies up and you might get there one day.

craigdamage: Yeah GungFu...it's an "American thing"

Did the article piss you off? Was Paul Stanley your favourite?
You seem to have something up your ass.

You hadn't heard? The term supergroup has no meaning anymore, the general population and the media just use it in place of "really popular group" now.

GunshipPolitico 2008-03-22 04:10:02 AM
The first KISS song I heard was "rock and roll all night...and party everyday" I thought that with all the makeup and pyrotechnics and shiat they would be something really hardcore for the time period.

But then I listened to their music: Not that it is bad, it is just not as hardcore as the make-up would make them to seem.

So.. yeah, not a fan
\Seems shallow, but seriously

Lowell George: Supergroup? You've got to be kidding me.

Yeah, a supergroup is a band made up of people already famous. Like Cream, Journey, the Firm, the Highwaymen, Temple of the Dog, Audioslave, and Velvet Revolver.

But, here's what makes the term apply: a lot of writers have used the term to apply to long-lasting, influential groups such as Led Zeppelin, and yes, lil' brother, Kiss. Since you farted in the elevator with Kiss condescension, here's why your mama would lick kiss supernutsack:

They've been around for 36 years, have five gold and six platinum records. They've been rocking chicks' panties off since 1973 and were the top-drawing concert act as late as 1996. It would make news now, but even back in the late 70's they were pushing merch totals of over $100 million. And, they're a metal band with multiple top ten charting singles, including "Beth" and "Forever."

Supergroup, perhaps not. But, Super Group, oh hells yeah.

delreydaddio - classic.

the images of the band have those highly chamfered borders that people used on any and all internet images about 10 years ago

it's kinda fitting, because kiss also use simplistic, cliched, out-of-date methods to make something very average look good to people who are too far removed to know better

that's why kiss have been so successful - lots of americans are too far removed from where things are at. it's not talent on the part of the band, it's lack of appreciation of talent on the part of the audience

The music doesn't have to be perfect buddy. The reason that KISS will go down as one of the most influential bands in history is that they were and are still masters of marketing.

Just because it's not Radiohead or some indy band that is soo much better musically doesn't mean that you can judge peoples artistic choices.

one doesn't really need to be a music snob to dismiss kiss, one simply has to compare their output to that of their contemporaries. let's face it, they are rubbish

FTFA:

"I really, firmly believe there will come a time when the band will continue without me. Some people can't imagine it without me, but I'm here to tell you, I can. There is somebody out there with the same amount of passion and the same amount of drive. Which is not to say I wouldn't want to have creative control. I think Kiss is more about a point of view, about a respect for fans and about a loyalty and a direction much more than it is the people in the band"

In other words, he's thinking of hiring/licensing someone to take his place in the band (which, let's face it, brought itself back from fifteen years of second-string status by becoming an oldies act for GenXers).

Stay classy, Paul. It really is all about the money, isn't it?

I'm a music snob. Divorced a batshiat crazy symphony violinist and *ahem* work in the industry. I also loved KISS and it helped make me the music aficionado I am today.

21-7-b isn't a music snob, just a dolt. And, 21-7-b: I didn't make the image, it was the first image I pulled off teh Googlez. You have a lot to learn about both music, what makes it beloved, and how to draw conclusions about it in comparison to other forms of people-powered art.

It's obvious that 21-7-b falls into one of two categories:

1. The music that influenced his formative years was prior to the mid-70's, and the glam-rock era needs get off his lawn, or

2. He's a kid without perspective. It's natural for generations to puff out their chest and declare dominance over those before them.

Either way, he's not a music intellectual, he's a psudeo-music intellectual. I make my living off music and protect the rights of the people making theirs by bringing it into the world. I would claim to speak ex-cathedra.

And, YouDummy: Hahahahahahaha. I missed that! Totally just grabbed a pic and posted :-) But, in defense, the article being about how the band is about to go into Idol-esque syndication makes it accidentally perfect, no?

Hahahahahahahahaha! The best laughs are at our own expense!
