NEW YORK - David Paterson, who became the governor of New York Monday after Eliot Spitzer resigned amid a prostitution scandal, may have broken state campaign finance laws when he used campaign cash to pay for a hotel room for a woman with whom he was having an affair, the New York Daily News reported Thursday.

Paterson and his wife, Michelle, acknowledged Tuesday that both had had extramarital affairs during a rough patch in their marriage. Paterson said he didn't think he had used any taxpayer money to pay for his trysts. (rofl.. yeah right)

The Daily News on Thursday cited campaign finance documents that show Paterson made a $500 payment to a woman with whom sources said he had an affair. The payment was listed in campaign documents as "professional services.""a Cleveland steamer". Paterson said he was reimbursing the woman for a campaign event.

Paterson also told the Daily News that he recalls using a campaign credit card to pay for a liaison sex in a hotel room, but he recalls reimbursing the campaign for the $103 charge. There is no apparent record of the reimbursement, the Daily News reported (yet)

The News found that Paterson also used $1,400 of campaign cash in March 2004 to pay off a credit charge listed as "constituent services," "polishing his bishop" although it was not clear what the specific charge was for. He reimbursed the campaign a few weeks later.

Did Paterson find the Governor's mansion yet?

At least this one gets reasonable rates.

The headline says 'new New York'.

I am saddened by the lack of Futurama pics/references in this thread

Is this guy going for the record for shortest term? Has he even been sworn in yet?

$500 for "professional services", so dates are actually cheaper than hookers.

Hey, if it's okay for Obama to use that phrase it's okay for anyone.

Especially since he's constantly being sold as a 'word-master'.

I think we should feel our way very carefully through these stories, because if we lose focus they can all blur together.

RockIsDead: Hey, if it's okay for Obama to use that phrase it's okay for anyone.

Well, considering she was born in the 1930's, his Grandmother DID reflect the "typical white person" of that pre-Civil Rights time.

He never said it was typical of whites TODAY, regardless of what your Fox News ticker is telling to to think.

That happens anyway in that neighborhood. The executive mansion is in a pretty rancid part of Albany, and governors rarely actually stay there. Loaf-pinch to your heart's content.

Falcc 2008-03-21 07:15:42 PM
Cut him some slack. The large pile of campaign cash just happens to be close to his personal hooker fund and he couldn't tell which one was which. This is just another attempt to keep the blindies down in this country. Non-story.

They should keep resigning until it's my turn to be governor.

At the rate it is going, you'll have to start looking to NJ for folks to run your state.
