It's about time. Wyoming has spat in the face of the UN for far too long.

The problem is too much free trade between neighboring states. Those New Mexicans are sucking away most of the jobs. So Colorado needs more labor unions and less free trade.

$700 million?? Yikes!

Welp, here's my contribution to the plan.. Immigrants. Legalize them as guest workers and have them or have their employers pay a penalty of, say, $1200 each. Let them pay it off $100 a month. By my math that'd more than take care of the deficit. Next year, we'll see about that..

My other contribution to the plan -- gas well revenue sharing. They are pulling millions of dollars of natural gas out of the ground/state every day. And they are building thousands of new wells each year. Cut a deal. The current deal obviously is not working.

Actually it is the illeagals from Arizona taking all their jerbs. They should build a really big wall.

Jesus, I thought Maine's $200 million shortfall was bad.

7 million from now until 2011 for a state that has over 4 million citizens? That honestly doesn't sound to bad to me. Just have everyone chuck an extra $5 a month and you should be back in the black.

\It's a problem on the same order of magnitude as Totalfark membership.

Actually, state unemployment is very low. So low, in fact, that it is not part of the issue we are discussing whatsoever. Other than that, great post!

They should tap on their local talent. I hear those kids at Colorado U. Grow the Best Organic Weed on their side of the Mississippi. They should be proud to have such a strong agriculture department in their state.

Even kids from my school respect and are amazed by the stories we hear of their legendary university.

I honestly couldn't tell you why this is happening. There are tons of jobs, good pay, decent living costs.

Probably because of road repair. lol

Oh, I see. That 700,000,000 is over 3 years. A non-issue in my opinion then.

/Californian. $14B budget shortfall in one year.
//Ex-Pittsburgher. The city alone had ~$1B public debt by late 2007.

When we had a budget surplus a couple years back, and a lot of people (including me) were happy to sock it away for a rainy day, our brilliant state voted instead to send out refunds and take the surplus on down to Walmart for new DVD players.

$700 million? Pffft.

My COUNTY has a $300m budget shortfall this year.

Granted, I live in the 7th-wealthiest county in the country, but still...

You should see it on 4-20. We could be back in the black by just selling tickets.
