Considering their work since the early 80's I'd say that a better question is why, why, why, WHY?!?

/synthsizers killed ZZ Top's sound
//my lawn, off it

Someone put Rick Rubin on the case. Could be their best album yet.

As far as I'm concerned, they peaked at Tres Hombres.

All I know is that I never want to see words "ZZ Top" and "gets busy" in the same sentence EVER again!

Yes, but will they be in the next Back to the Future movie?

I'll give them the benfit of the doubt as least as far as Degüello.

I'm about to get busy on my first album since 2003, so I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

My first favorite band. Seen several shows. Still have all albums through Afterburner.

Please go back and play blues with just two guitars and a drum set.

Billy Gibbons is awesome. I can't believe he's still alive though. (looks up his age) Holy crap he's 59? He looks so much older. Whatever, he can still wail.

Dusty Hill---single most underrated bassist of all time.

Very simple and basic 12 bar blues based bass lines but he ALWAYS fills the beat up perfectly in every song.

Anyone know how he gets that fat "farty" tone?

What amps does he use?

The older I get, the more I think that Top in their prime was maybe America's greatest rock and roll band.
Which would, of course, make them the greatest rock and roll band, period.

Look for the name Greg Morrow in the credits somewhere when it comes out. Greg's the drummer you hear on the last few records.

The Top is still my favorite band, although I kinda dislike the synth stuff, Mescalero was a pretty good record.

El Camino Ford Ranchero
Mescalero.

I think I'll pop that disk in right now, thanks.

One of these days I'll convince my brothers that we need to recut the entire Eliminator album playing as a three pice blues rock band, no synth at all, just make it sound like Tres Hombres ZZ.

Funny story? I was in an elevator at the Peabody Hotel and in comes Billy G. Of course I almost "fan out" but kept my cool anyway and just took a deep breath and looked down at the Rev (he's rather short) and said "Hey Billy, what are the lyrics to Ten Foot Pole?"

He just started laughing, the doors opened, and away he walked.

I still don't know what the hell he's saying in that song.

Yes.

But they can still do Heaven, Hell or Houston, just for the sheer weirdness of it.

A ZZ concert film? about farking time after 35 years or so.

And yes, their post-70's stuff isn't as good, but it still rocks. Go see them live, it's amazing how well 3 guys can pull that material off.

craigdamage, it's 90% fender precision bass, Dusty claims it's due to his broken, inflexible index finger.
