FTA, "...led the panel in its unanimous opposition in 2005 to a six-lane toll road that would cut through San Onofre State Beach, one of Southern California's most cherished surfing beaches.

Holy Crap! What are they thinking?
Why not put one through Yosemite? Maybe a bridge linking Half Dome with El Capitan! There's a nice idea if you just want to destroy something.
Better yet, why not level Big Sur and put in a giant golf course.

Uh, their terms of office are apparently over, and Schwarzenegger just isn't keeping them around, according to the article. It's not an active firing, except in the mind of his retarded cousin.

Active firings of people are generally based on specific offenses, while 'ok, your time is up, we're not renewing the contract' is more often based on general performance. My guess here is that the complainer has been doing a less-than-mediocre job, and is upset because being related to the governor didn't save his padded arse.

Seriously, if anything, being willing to let his relatives go if they aren't doing the job so well is a good sign for California. Non-story, though I guess a good excuse to bring up the development plans again.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot (for the toll booth operators)

*sigh*

Adding roads in SoCal is only a Band-Aid. We need better mass transit systems. It's ridiculous that, for example, northern San Diego has never seriously considered running a train line from the inland corridor to Downtown when I-15 is a parking lot every weekday, and has been for 20 years. The Trolley system still doesn't extend north of Mission Valley--and even extending service to SDSU took an immense legal battle.

Yes, extending a trolley line just a couple of miles to A COLLEGE WITH OVER 30,000 STUDENTS required lawsuits.

The bus system is ridiculous, too. The #20 line (which hasn't had a serious update going at least as far back as 1988) has a morning and evening express to downtown... and it's the only line that north-inland dwellers get. Need to get from, say, Rancho Bernardo to Mission Valley for work (roughly a 20-mile commute)? Your choices are:

1) Your car and an hour in traffic each way
2) A two-hour bus ride each way with about three dozen stops in between

There are a couple of Amtrak lines that run to Orange and Los Angeles counties (and points in-between), and from northern San Diego County to Downtown. They're only practical for people who live in a couple of select coastal towns.

Building more roads (never mind the mind-boggling stupidity of ripping up a state park for one) will only alleviate pressure for a few years.

/sore point
//I don't even live in San Diego anymore, and it's still a sore point

Wow. Arnold really doesn't want to work in Hollywood any more.
