Finally, a 3rd party candidate that won't take any votes from the other parties.

What a strangely uninformative headline.

Libertarian. Riiiiiight.

Unless the word "Libertarian" now means "Typical Republican partisan hack and Bush toady who hates personal freedoms and embraces idiotic backwards conservative fringe positions".

GoDawgs! [TotalFark] 2008-03-20 11:44:39 PM
So he may upset Wayne Allyn Root, who raised a whopping $15,439 ($11,162 more than none of the above)?

I'd rather vote for Bob Barker.

Because People in power are Stupid 2008-03-21 01:20:21 AM
This guy operates on principles. His first principle is that people are idiots -no seriously.

He must think that Libertarians are really stupid because it is quite obvious from his voting record that he is Libertarian in name only. (LINO)

As long as he votes to make that yodeling mountain climber a national monument. Wait, who?

Sounds like he's trying to jump on the bandwagon. He's running for president because there's a lot of enthusiasm for Ron Paul?

The anti-Nader!!!

I don't think most people have a clue what libertarians stand for.

Who?

(checks wiki)

Well, he's no Ralph Nader.

Hmmm, the guy who's very anti-abortion and paid for his then wife to have one. Pass.

Barr is most famous for being one of the Alpha douchebags during the Lewinsky scandal.

Who the hell is Bob Barr?

chimp_ninja: Finally, a party that can save me from the oppression of fire departments and libraries.

You've been yelled at for that before: These are local services, douchebag, a Libertarian president couldn't do anything to your fire department or libraries.

justoneznot: Sounds like he's trying to jump on the bandwagon. He's running for president because there's a lot of enthusiasm for Ron Paul?

His name floated up in the Ron Paul crowd a while back, and none of them trusted him as a Libertarian. Dwayne Root seemed the 'more popular' (though popularity in a RP crowd is like seeing what is the warmest item in your freezer) choice. He strikes me as more of a sheister than Mitt Romney, but better than Barr in principles.

jcooli09: Who the hell is Bob Barr?

From Wiki: In 1999, during the impeachment trial of President Clinton, Hustler Magazine publisher Larry Flynt offered money to anyone who could provide evidence that a prominent Republican had engaged in an extramarital affair. According to the American Journalism Review, "Barr was one of 13 House Republicans chosen to act as prosecutors in Clinton's Senate trial. Barr, Flynt's investigators found, was guilty of king-size hypocrisy: An outspoken foe of abortion, the Georgia lawmaker had acquiesced to his then-wife having an abortion in 1983. And he had invoked a legal privilege during his 1985 divorce proceeding so he could refuse to answer questions on whether he'd cheated on his second wife with the woman who is now his third."

Yeah, I skipped straight to the Controversy section of his wiki entry... this is Fark after all...

CagedDepravity 2008-03-21 10:48:00 AM
After reading more of his wikipedia entry, I've actually changed my opinion of Barr. I used to think that he was an enormous douche, but he is apparently one of the good right-wingers, you know... the "former" kind. (pops)

Headline has it all wrong.

Drew Carey is the Libertarian. The guy he replaced never really made his politics clear.

Um, if you're going to run for president, shouldn't you kinda have already started running?

Note: The Libertarian Party that I spoke of also runs candidates in state and local elections.

Now, if I wanted to discuss the President in particular, I could say: "Finally, a Presidential candidate that can save me from the oppression of the Post Office and the interstate highway system."

He should just run as a dumb prick.

Yesdog: "Typical Republican partisan hack and Bush toady who hates personal freedoms and embraces idiotic backwards conservative fringe positions".

No, that is the definition of McCain. Somehow that appeals to voters, as if it was moderate. Weird.

Anyone remember the Bob Barr interview Borat did? Yeah, it was pretty good, wasn't it?

cmb53208 2008-03-22 04:13:19 PM
Bob Barr is an old school conservative who's so disturbed by the Patriot Act that he now does work for the ACLU. The guy's also honest, in that he admits he farked up in voting for it.

He's worth a look

We recognize such events by issuing a Burning Times award. More details about these awards.

This award was given on 1999-MAY-20 to Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, in recognition of being the North American political figure whose behavior most closely exemplifies the spirit of the Witch burning times of the 15th to 18th centuries.

horizontal rule
Representative Bob Barr's Statements:

U.S. Representative Bob Barr (GA-7) has been a United States Attorney, and currently serves on the House Judiciary, Government Reform and Banking committees. 2

On 1999-MAY-13, he issued a press release titled:

"BARR: CAUSES OF YOUTH VIOLENCE FOUND IN ADULT CULTURE." 3

He lists as one of the causes of youth violence the practice by the U.S. military to permit Wiccan personnel to observe their religious faith. Wicca is a benign, earth-centered religion, which is somewhat similar to Native American Spirituality. A second source of youth violence that he cites is the increasing acceptance by university students of humanism, a secular, non-theistic philosophy with a strong ethical component.

On 1999-MAY-18, he issued a second press release. Copies were delivered to military and congressional leaders. Recipients included Army Secretary Louis Caldera and Lt. Gen. Leon S. LaPorte, commander of Fort Hood, TX. It is titled:

"BARR DEMANDS END TO TAXPAYER-FUNDED WITCHCRAFT ON AMERICAN MILITARY BASES." 4

He is reported as having viewed a report on The O'Reilly Factor, a program on Fox News. It featured vernal equinox ceremonies by soldiers at Fort Hood, TX. He had heard that military chaplains at Fort Hood, and other bases "are sanctioning, if not supporting the practice of witchcraft as a 'religion' by soldiers on military bases."
