OMFG

I had to read that headline 4 times.

FTFA: "To equate what I said with what this racist bigot has said from the pulpit is unbelievable. He gave a very good speech on race relations, but he did not address the fact that this man is up there spewing hatred." She also said that Obama's 20-year association with Wright raises questions about his judgment.

More trolls on Fark should aspire to this level. I particularly like how she compliments Obama on the speech in a deftly backhanded way, then ignores the central argument of the speech to repeat a charge of racism.

Can the media please stop talking to people like Ferraro until she has something substantive to contribute? I don't see people interviewing Wright and asking him what he thinks of Ferraro (and I don't want to).

and rightly so.

it was funny to watch.

Congresswoman Ferraro is even older than Senator McCain so you can excuse her for being a bit senile.

I cant believe the Democrats are going to hand the GOP the easiest election in recent history because they are upset about calling each other names and hurting one another's feelings.

curmudge: Congresswoman Ferraro is even older than Senator McCain so you can excuse her for being a bit senile.

listen, i can excuse anyone over 70 of just about anything.

farting, racism, senility, who cares.

i can't excuse them for going in the press, over and over, and letting us all hear it. you can excuse these things because no one is paying attention to them anyways and you can blame the fart on the dog.

Outtaphase [TotalFark] 2008-03-20 06:07:47 PM
Retorted Ferraro: "I could not believe that. That's my mother's generation."

Stuff it old white lady. I'm a middle-aged white guy and you can't bullshiat the generation you and your mother brought up. If I had a dime for every gossipy conversation I heard that started with "Of course I'm not a racist, you know, BUT..." I'd be rich enough to not care who gets elected.

You can try to justify the struggle between your progressive tea room talks and your abject fear of seeing a black man on the street, but if you can't teach the old dogs new tricks then it's time to sit it out.

I Said [TotalFark] 2008-03-20 07:06:18 PM
Shut up already. We get it: You're a tough woman. You're not afraid to say anything. OMG you are teh warriah princess!

But this election isn't about you. It's about Obama, McCain, and a kamikazee pilot.

We have enough people in this campaign whining with Hillary, we don't need another.

Some black people are angry about how they have been traditionally treated in America.

Clinton = Ferraro

Sweet!

"Ferraro upset to be lumped in with Obama's former pastor."

I'm upset, too:
Reverend Wright's statements, taken in context, weren't nearly as racist as what Ferraro said.
It's bad enough to quote the most offensive words of a long sermon on endless loop... but to lump him in with that racist old lady is truly offensive.

Can whoever dug up Geraldine Ferraro please replace her skull so she can vanish back to the dustbin of history?

Thanks.

She should go to San Diego Comic Con and cosplay as Xena Warrior Princess.

Oh wait, no she shouldn't! :s

--Obama, March '08

DrMcNinja 2008-03-20 07:18:26 PM
Ferraro:"but he did not address the fact that this man is up there spewing hatred"

Obama:"Rev. Jeremiah Wright, use incendiary language to express views that have the potential not only to widen the racial divide, but views that denigrate both the greatness and the goodness of our nation; that rightly offend white and black alike"

"But the remarks that have caused this recent firestorm weren't simply controversial. They weren't simply a religious leader's effort to speak out against perceived injustice. Instead, they expressed a profoundly distorted view of this country"

"As such, Rev. Wright's comments were not only wrong but divisive, divisive at a time when we need unity; racially charged at a time when we need to come together to solve a set of monumental problems"

Unless there's another interview I didn't see, I didn't think that the Rev. Wright got all angry black preacher on Hannity. I though he was all calm while Hannity was about to have a coronary because he couldn't succeed at baiting Wright. It was pretty funny.

yeah, i wish he hadn't chosen those particular words. what he was saying was great, and it was received well, but that'll get thrown back at him.

fast forward to the next debate.

RUSSERT: senator obama, what is a "typical white person?"

OBAMA: why, i'm glad you asked. a typical white person, similar to a typical black person, is an american that has racist tendencies beaten into their heads in the schoolyards and churches of this fine country. we've got work to do.

Son_Dee 2008-03-20 07:27:57 PM
Maybe I mis-understood, but I took Barack's mention of Ferraro as DEFENDING her.
We can dismiss Rev. Wright as a crank or a demagogue, just as some have dismissed Geraldine Ferraro, in the aftermath of her recent statements, as harboring some deep-seated racial bias.

But race is an issue that I believe this nation cannot afford to ignore right now. We would be making the same mistake that Rev. Wright made in his offending sermons about America -- to simplify and stereotype and amplify the negative to the point that it distorts reality.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what he was saying was we CANNOT dismiss Wright and Ferraro as cranks. To do so would be to "amplify the negative to the point that it distorts reality."

But Ferraro, like a LOT of simple minded mouth breathers that make up far too much of the voting public, completely missed the point. I wonder if she even read/heard the entire speech.

Yeah, I saw what he did there the first time I read the speech. Brilliant. TFB, lady. This is what happens when you go opening cans of worms like that. When you attack, people defend themselves, boo frickin' hoo.

You know, I can't help but wonder why Pastor Wright hasn't made any sort of public statement yet. Something along the lines of "Perhaps I was overly harsh in my choice of words, but please, don't allow my mistakes to change your view of Barack"?

I mean, he's a Christian preach for God's sake (no pun intended), wouldn't you think he'd like to ask a little forgiveness? I thought that's what this "Christianity" thing was all about.

If that happened, I imagine the MSM would turn it into "Pastor says 'allow my mistakes to change your view of Barack'" or some absurd distortion of what he actually said.

Has anyone read the comments that follow this article?
If you're looking for evidence of racist idiots, there it is.

I find it offensive that Obama would lump an American hero like Ferraro in with his racist, hateful minister

I can hardly believed how the media and their editorial boards are swooned by Obama's speech. It is beautiful rhetoric, skillfully laid out to cover up his untruthfulness (not aware of Wright's hateful sermons), poor judgement (Rezco, Wright), and hypocrisy (so angry at Ferraro, Clinton, Rendell, etc. for their mild comments relating to race, while not saying a word about Wright's sermon for 20 years).

Geraldine is spot on right

And his poor white grandmother.

I totally agree with Ms. Ferraro

I'm still getting over the shock of reading these.

sox406 2008-03-20 07:43:58 PM
What this old hag needs is 20 minutes alone with a black man. She'll come around, they always do. I myself would be willing to take one for the team, but seeing as how I'm a white guy that probably wouldn't work. But I'm pretty sure I could pass for a black guy if the lights were off so...

You know, as a white man in his early 30s i don't really disagree with Wright's statements.

But it's not race that is the biggest divider, it's money. Barak is not where he is because he is a black man, he's where he is because he is a rich man.
