I wonder if he ever shagged Shelly West back in the day?

He is playing right handed. Maybe he was a commie?

I love how country music felt the need to 'country-fy' the set for these early performances. Did they think that we wouldn't figure out that it was country music without the wagon wheel and haybail in the background?

Lefty Frizzell gets mad props from me for If You've Got the Money. That song is hilarious.

More people should have names like "Lefty".

Back when television was a series of hinged stone tablets with crude images etched on them that, when the tablets were flipped quickly enough, appeared to move as though they were "alive."

Lefty used to wrestle Sabre Toothed Tigers for extra moolocks, too.

This reminds me of a wonderful, long gone era...

..when country music didn't suck all kinds of ass.

Yeah country music does suck, but then again almost all music sucks now, industry people think they have to get the prettiest singer musical talent be damned.

"country music" now is just pop music with an affected drawl. This stuff was the shiat. Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, George Jones, Bob Wills, The Carter Family. That was authentic regional music with real soul. The stuff they push in Nashville today is pablum created for the all hat no cattle, pickup truck drivin' rednecks.

I'm a big Lefty fan...in my country trio we do "Saginaw, Michigan."

By the way, it was his little brother David who sang with Shelley West. She was the reason God made Oklahoma.

Go to YouTube and search on Buck Owens when he had Don Rich on guitar with him. Those are some fun videos. Nice harmony and playing from Don. Those Telecasters ring.

Steve Earle, Lyle Lovett and Dwight Yoakam would like to have a word with you.

(Granted, nobody compares to the early days anymore - see theewhiterhino's list - but there are still plenty of awesome, talented country singer-songwriters out there.)

Nice find subby! Loves me some Lefty. And, I'd like to add Ernest Tubb, Merle Travis, and Crazy Joe Maphis to the old school "must have" list.

One word: Hag!

I love the older country. In addition to the people already mentioned: Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Hank Jr, Kris Kristofferson, Roger Miller, EmmyLou Harris, Charley Pride, Porter Wagoner, Dolly Parton...

Just off the top of my head.

rmoose: I wonder if he ever shagged Shelly West back in the day?

Maybe his brother David did? They both had duets with her.

The sound quality is great on this video, considering how old the film was. I am guessing this was from Porter Wagoner's TV show, as it was him that came out at the end.
