I want this CD to be good. I NEED this CD to be good. It can be good - Rick Rubin produced it.

But the two songs they've debuted on tour sound like outcasts from St. Anger. They SUCK like Duke.

To quote 2 great movies, 3 OK ones and 1 that sucked....

"I've got a bad feeling about this."

Instead of going to all the trouble of recording an album maybe he'll just sue everybody who doesn't buy it.

I think the best part of their documentary film is the scene where Lars is playing some new tracks for his father. The look on his face is priceless. I think he says something along the lines of "I would delete that"

If you knew about the Metallica recording process, you wouldn't take those songs as very much. They have a tendancy to throw things away rather quickly. We haven't heard much of anything since then, and they've probably replaced large portions of the songs and/or moved on from them entirely.

it's already been reported that those 2 songs have been in the trash for awhile.

generally, bands come to Rubin with 15 songs, he listens to them, and then says "yeah, those suck, go write 15 more".

Agreed. I believe I heard, from Lars or Kirk, that those two songs either have been scrapped or most of the songs had changed.

I think the problem with St. Anger was they threw nothing out. Much the same could be said for Load and Reload. The pendulum of turd polishing had swung form one end to the other.

That may have been true ten years ago Lars, but I doubt that's the case anymore. If you were Metallica's harshest critic, St. Anger would never have seen the light of day.

I've got high hopes but lets face facts. James can't sing like he did in the mid 80's so whatever they put out isn't going to sound like the good old days. Go put in Ride the Lightning and remember how things used to be.

They threw out a number of songs, they had enough for two CDs at one point before they picked a few and started rehashing them into what later became St. Anger.

It would be cool to hear a new great Metallica record.

It's only been, like, almost 20 years since they did that. They have been rich a long time now, so I don't expect much.

The problem with St. Anger is that it should have been Lar's solo record project, not a Metallica record.

Kliffoth [TotalFark] 2008-03-19 09:48:23 PM
You guys know that there's plenty of Metal bands out there that are much better than Metallica EVER was right? I mean I like Metallica's old stuff but even that is far from the best metal out there.

misery faded 2008-03-19 10:39:31 PM
Maybe if they wouldn't keep touring Europe and East Asia during the past 2 summers and this upcoming one they'd have it done by now.

And for that matter, why the hell can't they do a short tour in the US if they're so "sick of the studio?"

Kind of off topic, but I had a friend who worked with them on the Black Album. He was pretty fresh out of recording school so he got all the shiat jobs. Most of the time he was nothing but a gopher.

One of his primary responsibilities was going to a nearby porn shop where he'd pick up Lars special order Scandinavian gay porn mags. I have no idea why Lars special ordered Scandanavian gay porn, but whatever.

He was given several sets of drumsticks over the course of production (he was also an aspiring drummer) but we always told him he might want to think twice about using them. Never know where they might have been.

/His other main job was making the band's espresso
//They even offered to pay him to go on tour with them just to make espresso.
///He said they were a hell of a lot easier to work with than Dave Mustaine.

I know that! Most big Metallica fans I know only think there's Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Iron Maiden etc., they have no idea that there's so much INCREDIBLE metal out there (and more all the time). It's a matter of exposure.

I shudder to think what a real Lars solo project would sound like:

dink dink dink dink dink dink clank dink dink dink dink dink dink dink clank dink splash dink dink dink dink....

Dude sounds like he's keeping time on a tin can, who the fark said "yeah, let's give him a high-pitched piccalo snare and see how it sounds" dink dink dink "awesome, now THAT'S the sound of metal; rawk on Lars"

I remember how I used to love to watch my hardass metalhead friends turn all emo-y when Fade to Black would come on. Then I'd tell them I thought Rob Halford was gay (nttawwt) and they'd snap out of it and beat the crap out of me for telling such sacrilegious lies.

How could anyone with a soul listen to anything these douchebags have released since Load and enjoy it?

Fark_Q 2008-03-20 10:34:38 AM
Well..

1) It has been said that a lot of less mainstream 'metal' is actually better if not pisses all over whatever metallica has made since the late 80's. This is true.

2) Metallica did have a good run in the 80's. ALL of those albums remain classics

3) As far as the big 4 of thrash metal/heavy metal of the 90's you gotta remember these where HUGE acts as far as metal goes. I'm talking about slayer/pantera/metallica/iron maiden. It's like talking about . I realize musical tastes vary, but no one could argue with the amount of money these bands made while not being mainstream like something as *ugh* britney spears or rolling stones.

4) All those bands where very good, but not the end all of heavy metal. As said previously, just look around and you'll find plenty of reasons to fall in love again with it. It's not all about playing the stupidest, fastestests, dumbests, loudest rift. Honestly - it isn't. It's been done and while there are males age 16 - 21, it will continue to be done. Nothing wrong with it, per say, but as the metal head grows more gray, they do migrate to more interesting tastes. Take a look at DOWN, My Dying Bride, Nevermore, Amorphis....good stuff, not all balls to the wall riff induced suicide.

If you still want to think all metal is like that then whatever. That stuff is good, but the other stuff, the more creative *music* is far more worth it. Trust me on this :)

Dude the fact that you put Britney Spears and the Stones in the same sentence goes to show how very little you know about music and just how narrow your taste (such as it is) is.

"Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'Goodbye' and you were like 'NOWAY' Metallica pissed and shiat on most of it's fans because their greed got the better of them and their corporate masters told them to, and then I was all "we pretended we were going to murder you, Metallica said they wanted to make a new album, even though their last one sucked harder than a crack head who thinks there's a rock in the middle of your dick and if she sucks hard enough she can get it out to smoke it in the blacklight lightbulb that used to illuminate the cool 'Ride The Lightning' poster... that was great."

I hope this album is a throwback to the good ol' Master of Puppets days.

Either that, or they become the hard blues band that Jaymz would like it to be in his elder years.

Did you even listen to St. Anger, sir?

/Rubin producing Metallica is funny enough, personally, if you think about it:

Lars: We were wondering if you could produce our next album.
Rick: Who the hell is this?
Lars: Lars Ulrich.
Rick: Who?
Lars: ...From Metallica.
Rick: Is this a joke?
Lars: No.
Rick: Well, what are you trying to get it to sound like?
Lars: ...'Christ Illusion'.
Rick: ::Hysterical laughing::
Lars: Well... How about 'A Matter of Life and Death'?
Rick: ::Still laughing::
Lars: ...'Painkiller'...?
Rick: ::ack!:: ::thud::
Lars: ...Hello?...Hello?......Crap.

/TRY THE VEAL!
