Four albums already? Wow, seems like they haven't been around that long.

Sounds like a duet of Chris and Ricky Martin...

First album was eight years ago, first single/EP a decade ago...

At least they say it's going to be good.

So far, Coldplay's never really disappointed (whine about how they're boring if you wanna, but they do not have a lot of bad songs).

incircles 2008-03-19 08:33:14 AM
They don't have any good songs, either.

I would just like to remind everyone that coldplay started out as a boyband called "pectorals"

Coldplay = Bends-era Radiohead for people who thought they got "too weird" afterwards.

/had to say it.
/ditto on the Ricky Martin reference. I had to reread it a few times before I realised it said something different.

Man, Coldplay is great. It just pisses me off that Radiohead blatantly rips them off, only with much crappier music.

Coldplay = Imitation Cheese

Should call it "Viva Velveeta"

"Everyone thinks it comes from Ricky Martin, which is fine."

So the word "life" in Spanish reminds everyone of Ricky Martin... I feel bad for all of Latin America right now

Me too. I can't wait for this album. I think I read somewhere that it's coming out on June 17th in the US, but I'm not 100% sure...

I was going to say the same thing. Except the exact opposite.

Rush of Blood to the Head is an amazing album - pity X&Y was an overproduced mush of what could have been good songs, but had to satisfy the soccer-mum crowd they managed to pick up somehow.

Agreed. I'm holding out hope that this new project is more of a return to Rush of Blood or Parachutes, and not as bloated and indulgent as X+Y. According to Wikipedia, "It has been quoted as 'the album people will remember them by'" and is being produced by Brian Eno. Will also try not to withhold judgment based on the title. I remember being all "WTF??" when I first heard about "Achtung Baby!", but that turned out OK.

This. It had a few good songs, notably "Square One" [the production and synths on this track actually add goodness to it, IMHO], "Talk",
"Speed of Sound" [aka. "Clocks" II: Electric Boogaloo], "The Hardest Part" [great pop song... ever notice that the first few seconds of the intro *kind of* sounds like the intro - or parts wherein - of "Losing my Religion" by REM?]

The rest? hmmm let's see: sappy, pretentious, boring, not catchy, etc. etc. Not to mention the generally bad lyrics, courtesy of Chris Martin.

I STILL think that "Parachutes" was their best album. So fresh sounding, late 90's Brit pop/rock. But like others have said, it sounds like a more poppier, people-relationship-based [ie. in love, and breakups] version of "the Bends" album by Radiohead. Even some of the riffs sound similar....
