This dude rocks, even if he is nerdy-looking. I bought his CD. :D

Go RON!

By the way, here's his Youtube homebase with the rest of his tunes and videos.

Ronald Jenkees Youtube page

Ron is a very entertaining guy with some nimble-ass fingers! I like his keyboard electric guitar mix of Canon in D:

The keyboard work was okay.

But the George W. Bush impression - THAT WAS AWESOME!!!

It's like Drew Carey collided with Steve Vai.

Pretty damn good though, but holy hell, dude, what's up with that Kubrick head you got sitting on your shoulders?! :P

Watching some of his other ones. He sometimes reminds me of a muppet when he jams out to his songs.

But I can't discount that the kid's got talent.

/liked it

Of all the words in subby's sentence, I think coolest is the most inappropriate. Especially the cool part.

yarnothuntin: Of all the words in subby's sentence, I think coolest is the most inappropriate. Especially the cool part.

I take it back, I just watched the clip and yeah that is pretty cool. Kid's got skillz. I thought subby was talking about a keytar. God I hate those things.

craigdamage 2008-03-19 07:02:51 AM
I thought the sound/tone was dreadful.
Very cold and brittle sounding.
I shall patiently await for that talented kid to "go retro" someday.

He could really do some damage on a Rhodes,Hammond or maybe even a Wurlitzer.(not the cheesy home organ Wurlitzer, the Ray Charles one)

Kyosuke [TotalFark] 2008-03-19 07:32:38 AM
Wow, another keyboard player wishing be a guitar player and get all the chicks.

This ain't new. Why do you think the Keytar was invented.

I just wish people would watch some of his other videos as well before commenting. Amazing talent and a great spirit to boot.

My 12 year old would love it.

I, on the other hand, farking hate synth music. I hated it in the 80's, I still hate it now.

wrek 2008-03-19 09:05:17 AM
This distracted me with "thanks to Bradsucks.net for the store html code" or whatever where I bought Brad's CD!

This guy is actually a damn good musician and he makes some pretty awesome beats, check out his blog at RonaldJenkees.com. I picked up his CD a while back and actually ended up enjoying it way more than I was expecting to, I'm not entirely sure that his persona is entirely legit, but the music in entertaining regardless.

Oh my how synth sucks. It looks as though the nerd rock thing is a farse - well at least overplayed.

wildcatben 2008-03-19 12:43:39 PM
I would just like to add my

\m/,

as well.

The guy is a blast to listen to, what interests me is that it seems to stand up to multiple listening very well. It's unpredictable and fun and some really complicated beats.

The way he was "playing" the guitar part reminded me a lot of GOODING. His band changed names to "The Angel/Devil" - but find this guy on iTunes and take a listen. He can generate some truly blistering solos when he gets going.

Nothing like wanking off instrumentaly.

ZZZzzz...

Love him, hate him, whatever... I just bought his CD. Laugh all the way to the bank, Ronald!!

dhudd 2008-03-19 01:25:57 PM
While I have and play a very nice Korg Triton, Martin D-35 and Sebring L50, I have NOTHING but contempt for keytars or anything like that. I'm pretty sure there is an especially hot, uncomfortable place in hell where you have to spend eternity listening to George Bush sing country sons for anyone who has even thought about playing a keytar. And the submittarrd and monitortard are probably going to be first into the oven there.

Hughie 2008-03-19 02:31:10 PM
I was actually going to post this video too yesterday. He is awesome, and he sticks with such an upbeat personality. I don't care if its part gimmick, I love the guy:)

DavidKirkBeale 2008-03-19 02:35:07 PM
catchy...i like it...but yeah, just go get a real guitar.

All those short, stunted notes don't sound "real" and you could get way more nuances playing the real thing.

JohnnyDreamboat 2008-03-19 03:40:25 PM
Meh.
/Donald Fagan has picked up a keytar on occasion.
//Still not cool.

justoneznot 2008-03-19 03:41:02 PM
Sort of reminds me of Buckethead.

Stunn 2008-03-19 04:02:57 PM
My friend bought the CD. It looks like Jenkees is overplaying the geek thing. The cover of the CD had him looking really dorky and cross-eyed. He's probably a good musician with a YouTube marking ploy to trick people.

I guess he sounds OK. It's nothing I would listen to unless I was high on something.

Br34ch 2008-03-19 04:58:11 PM
So, wait, how is he stimulating the bend? Probably a foot-pedal?

justoneznot 2008-03-19 06:13:43 PM
Ok I just watched a bunch of his youtube vids. He's got this whole "I'm a bumbling retard but a musical genius" shtick that gets old pretty quickly. He's not a bad keyboard player, but apparently not good enough to go anywhere without a gimmick.

TomKzinti 2008-03-19 07:31:59 PM
Can't somebody be different and not be regarded as a "retard"? Jesus, people. Have a little tolerance.

Godzilla [TotalFark] 2008-03-19 08:10:43 PM
I hate the tone but wish this guy well. I liked the beat better than the song.

justoneznot 2008-03-19 08:26:26 PM
TomKzinti: Can't somebody be different and not be regarded as a "retard"? Jesus, people. Have a little tolerance.

Well I used the word retard because it's a lame act for a gimmick. He's the one who created the shtick, I doubt he'd be offended. If he was like that for real I would be more "tolerant".

Oh and I find it curious that everywhere I look about him online, I read spam comments like "I just bought his CD, totally worth the $12!" Paleez

TomKzinti 2008-03-19 09:06:54 PM
Personally, I don't think he's acting any differently in the videos than he does when off-camera. It's not a gimmick, he's being himself. As I stated above, can't some people be different without being labeled or stereotyped?

...it's curious to you that some people like his tunes enough to buy a cheap CD of them? Come again? The guy's making music for fun on his keyboard and computer at home, he's not spamming cheap low-quality 1-minute MIDI tracks to screw people over with. His CD contains well-balanced fully edited high quality tracks.

Praise from fans or even from friends as an attempt to spam people? Riiiiight. Suspicious much?

I guess what they say is true...you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time...

I like them both, but some of the other is a bit too hip hoppy. I gotta agree, his schtick gets old. Shut up and play, man.

the problem with technology is any asshole with a computer can record his shiatty music and post it on the internet.

SynthLord 2008-03-19 11:01:28 PM
Nice groove, nice sound, but - and I'm pretty snobby about this - playing guitar sounds on a keyboard is just annoying. Leave the guitar stuff to guitarists; no matter how badass your workstation is, it will never really sound like a guitar. Yes, some of us can tell.

Bring some George Duke funk on a Rhodes program, a squirrelly synth lead a la Eddie Jobson, some chunky Hornsby voicings on a grand piano, or some other kind of, y'know, keyboard sound.

If you're going to be a keyboard geek, own it.

EL_FABREZ 2008-03-19 11:34:28 PM
So that's what happened to the kid from A Christmas Story. Does he really sound like that?

specialk111 2008-03-20 12:15:00 AM
Moon over Parma... guy looks like a young Drew Carey.

Guy has some good stuff on YouTube, might actually buy music for a change!

/keep on rockin' dude!

sexy-fetus 2008-03-20 01:24:29 AM
I so wanna see this guy live.
I've been to way too many concerts where the benevolent entertainers grace us with their performance
This guy actually enjoys making music and more so sharing it with everyone.

helix400 2008-03-20 01:24:46 AM
Whoa, I decided to check out his other stuff. He's one crazy talented freak that somehow holds his music together.

Thanks submitter.

That_Bob_Guy 2008-03-20 02:14:45 AM
justoneznot: Sort of reminds me of Buckethead.

The music sounded a little Buckethead-ish, but shredding on a guitar, ala Mr. Head, and playing a keyboard can't be compared musically.

/listening to Acoustic Shards as we speak
