None of the estimated $400 million that the RIAA received in settlements with Napster, KaZaA, and Bolt over allegations of copyright infringement has gone to the artists whose copyrights were allegedly infringed.

Oops.

I hope The Rolling Stones can still pay the water bill.

I worry about their finances.

The RIAA organization, maybe, but artists suing their individual record companies for compensation is nothing new.

Oops. I guess they just plain forgot to ask for enough money to cover the artists AND their legal bills. Because they care so much for the artists' interests...

FTFA: The RIAA also claims that there isn't actually that much money available after subtracting legal fees. Whoops.

Time for a bake sale, you larcenous asstards!

Sounds like the RIAA is farked...

I wish I could make a living representing someone and suing on their behalf, and not give them a farking dime after nearly half a billion in settlements.

So....a lawyer?

I hope they sue the RIAA into bankruptcy. Even Metallica and Madonna.

I've always thought this "let's extort settlements out of grandmas who had no idea what their grandkids were doing on the computer" strategy the RIAA is using was going to bite them in the ass, and it appears that's starting. It's really not done anything to stop illegal downloading, it alienates honest customers, and it looks like the really questionable legal grounding for these suits is coming to light.

Fark 'em. The recording industry wants government and the courts to bail them out of a failing business model rather than actually change.
