I'm fascinated by this charge. There are so many possible applications for this charge in life.

I was kind of wondering about that. Seems like the kind of charge you could apply willy-nilly, or very seldom.

OK, I had to know, so I looked it up...

The Pennsylvania Crimes Code states that a person is guilty of the crime of risking a catastrophe if he recklessly creates a risk of catastrophe in the employment of fire, explosives or other dangerous means.

Accordingly, the mens rea necessary to establish the crime of risking a catastrophe is reckless conduct.

To me, this means almost anyone could be charged with this using the second definition of the charge. What's reckless to me is all the hammerheads I see driving to/from work every day.

TFA: Police charged Hadzick with risking a catastrophe, criminal mischief, open lewdness, public drunkenness and related counts. He was being held in Lancaster County Prison on $200,000 bail.

and

Telephone messages left at three phone listings for a Nicholas Hadzick in the Freeland area were not returned.

Excuse me, Ric. He can't call you back. He's in jail. You said so yourself.

That poster hung in the downstairs bathroom at our house for years.

They didn't say "pushed a 300 lb. pizza oven" it was "tossed". If someone is clothed and running amok and can toss a 300 lb. oven, I'm not gonna try to stop them. Make them naked...I'm outta there.

He damaged a "$90,000 meat-wrapping machine". Why such an expensive machine for this task? He could have wrapped his meat with a $3 pair of undies.

Or he could've used those 3$ pair of undies for something else.
like you know, he could wear them.

What, you'd shoot a guy just for causing property damage? Jeez, I hope you don't actually own a gun.

The local news channel carried this story during the morning show...with a close up of a package of "Skinless Chicken"

One of my co-workers thought out loud..."Why not just show a package of 'Sausage in natural casing'?"

Best laugh we've had all month.

One story says:

Apparently drunk and completely naked.

rnatalie [TotalFark] 2008-03-17 09:40:02 AM
And there was at least one "guardian angel" at the store, an unidentified man who tried to calm Hadzick down, buying him a pack of cigarettes.
