Many people in Kentucky have a disease which makes them age quickly. It's called "drink too much, smoke too much, live off the government".

My patients that are 25 look like they are 50. Ridden hard and put away wet.

Doctors should spend copius amounts of time studying this disease to help figure out a way to DELAY the aging process and extend human lifespans.

I remember progeria was all over TV in the 80's Donahue, that's incredible Real people.

I actually knew of a girl that went to my middle school in Chula Vista, CA that had progeria. This was ten years ago, so I doubt she's still alive today, judging by TFA.

I remember that too. They must have sent those two kids to DisneyWorld about 50 times.

I certainly feel for this kid and his family, but I doubt anyone will care about a disease that affects 1 in 8 million.

There is actually an orphan drug law. If the pharmo company finds a cure, they can have a government-assured monopoly.

Wait how much longer are we talking? Because there are many people in the world that I really can't stand more of.

Right, because as we all know, the world is dangerously underpopulated, and we need everyone staying alive as long as possible, lest we drown in an overabundance of resources.

Well, you can always opt out of the treatment.

You mean they'll have a government assured monopoly on manufacturing the cure? Doesn't seem very profitable for a disease that is so rare.

"We realized God had chosen to bless us with this baby."

No, it's more like you don't want to face something so hard (don't blame you actually) so you make up any old shiat to feel better about it. The god thing works because other people fall for it too.

I have no idea why someone would find it a valuable exercise to study and try to cure a disease which has, according to this article, afflicted 100 people in medical history. Yeah yeah there are probably secondary and tertiary benefits to the research besides progeria itself, but still...

I love how grateful they are for God giving there kid a horrible disease.

Can people ever be pissed at him?

It's a disease linked to aging... It's possible a cure or even partial cure could be extended to other drugs and other population groups, say, Florida or Arizona.

Because the cause of progeria may have a direct impact on the human aging process itself and expansion of our lifespans? Just guessing here.

Having a small child getting up at 4am, a fascination with Matlock reruns, and begging to go to Old Country buffet are the first signs that something is wrong.

I grew up with one of those kids! Mickey was awesome and lived until he was 20.

You can see his picture on this (pops) website. The pointy ears are (obviously?) fake. Don't ever see the movie, though. Even Mickey said it sucked.

Did a image search for this and all I can say is:
Set face to stun

Sucks that you can look old enough for Social Security and you're not even out of diapers yet.

Then again most people who do get Social Security are already in diapers.

Thanks, I probably will. Spending an extra lifetime of old age in a sardine-packed world of unchecked population growth doesn't sound particularly attractive to me.

Sure, just wait until I'm done with it please. Oh, and you'll have to pay the shipping charges. :)

WOOT! Of course, by that time, I'll probably be well into my third brain transplant for Alzheimer's and will be very mentally taxed in my challenging career as a chicken mimic at some 22nd century sideshow.

Well it depends on the sect these people clearly aren't catholic or they'd blame it all on their evil sins. So I'm betting on baptist in which case they're generally insane.

There is nothing wrong with having a positive outlook and making the best of any situation.

Whoa whoa whoa. You're telling me that chicken mimicry is going to make a comeback? Well now I have to rethink this whole thing. I don't want to miss out on that. Okay then, sign me up. I'll just have to go build myself a fortress of solitude on the moon or something to escape the teeming masses.
